About The Position

Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company focused on rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft. They aim to deliver high-speed systems at the pace of the modern battlefield and provide critical capabilities to the U.S. and its allies. As a Propulsion Engineering Intern, you will support the design, development, and testing of propulsion components and systems. You will collaborate with engineers, manufacturing teams, and vendors to advance propulsion hardware from concept through testing. The internship is available for approximately 16 weeks in Spring (January - April), 12 weeks in Summer (May - August), or 16 weeks in Fall (September - December).

Requirements

  • Practical experience designing, building, and testing vehicles through internships, studies or projects.
  • Currently enrolled in a STEM program at an accredited college or university (undergraduate student in your third or fourth year of study, or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program).
  • Strong interest in propulsion systems, design, and testing.
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams.
  • Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus's mission.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Must be a "U.S. person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of propulsion components and systems from conceptual design through detailed mechanical design.
  • Create and release engineering drawings and collaborate with manufacturing teams and external vendors to produce hardware.
  • Assist in defining, configuring, and setting up propulsion test rigs.
  • Support the execution and documentation of propulsion hardware testing and development activities.
