About The Position

This internship involves working as part of a team to manage property tax assessments and protest processes. The intern will review property tax assessments and bills, prepare appeals, manage notices and requests from taxing authorities, and assist in preparing for protest hearings. Responsibilities also include conducting tax research, staying updated on tax law changes, negotiating settlements, documenting new property acquisitions, conducting cost-benefit analyses, verifying property information, and serving as a liaison with taxing authorities. Special projects and file organization are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task in an environment of frequently changing priorities by maintaining a daily work list in addition to special projects
  • Excellent work ethic and exceptional attention to detail
  • Good computer and internet skills

Nice To Haves

  • 1 – 2 years of mortgage bankruptcy experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team that includes other Property Tax Protest Associate(s)
  • Review property tax assessments and tax bills and prepare appeals when necessary or advised
  • Manage property tax notices and requests from various taxing authorities
  • Assist in the preparation for protest hearings by conducting research, compiling property documentation and keeping up with Hearings and Appeals deadlines
  • Conduct tax research and stay abreast of tax and law changes
  • Receive and file online property assessment/value notices
  • Negotiate value settlements with appraisers in various Texas counties and with out-of-state entities
  • Document/record new property acquisitions and set up files for these purchases
  • Conduct Cost Benefit Analyses by comparing property cost and property value
  • Verify property occupancy status and ownership with HCAD and other Texas appraisal entities
  • Serve as a liaison with taxing authorities/counties
  • Be responsible for special projects and for organizing files and support documents as necessary
