About The Position

The Philadelphia office of White and Williams LLP, a large multi-practice law firm with a nationally recognized Property Subrogation Department, is seeking an associate with 2-8 years of experience to join its growing Property Subrogation and Recovery practice. The successful candidate will assist clients in investigating and recovering losses arising from fires, explosions, water losses, equipment failures, product failures, construction defects, and other property damage events. Attorneys in the Department handle matters of all sizes, from routine residential and commercial claims to complex, multi-million-dollar losses. Associates work closely with insurance professionals, engineers, origin-and-cause investigators, product experts, and other forensic consultants to determine how losses occurred, evaluate potential third-party liability, and pursue recovery opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated attorney to join a highly regarded practice that combines forensic investigation, client counseling, negotiation, and litigation to recover losses on behalf of insurers and self-insured entities throughout the United States. The practice routinely handles claims involving product defects, equipment failures, fires, explosions, water losses, construction issues, and other complex property damage events.

Requirements

  • State Bar admission.
  • Strong academic credentials and writing skills.
  • 2-8 years of experience.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Experience handling litigation matters and managing competing deadlines.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with clients, experts, and colleagues in a fast-paced practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in property damage litigation, insurance litigation, product liability, construction litigation, commercial litigation, or subrogation matters is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate property losses and gather relevant facts, evidence, and documentation.
  • Work with origin-and-cause investigators, engineers, product experts, and other forensic consultants to evaluate causation and liability issues.
  • Analyze potential third-party claims involving product liability, negligence, construction defects, contractual liability, and other recovery theories.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for clients regarding liability, damages, litigation strategy, and recovery potential.
  • Communicate with clients throughout the investigation and litigation process.
  • Negotiate settlements with responsible parties and their insurers.
  • Conduct written discovery, depositions, motion practice, and other litigation activities.
  • Manage cases through mediation, arbitration, trial, and other dispute resolution proceedings as necessary.
