About The Position

Dauphin County Tax Assessment is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Property Mapper Clerk. The overall objective of the employee in this position is to maintain cadastral maps to ensure the integrity of the Dauphin County real property tax maps through plotting of parcels by reading deeds and plans as provided. The Property Mapper Clerk is also responsible for secondary office responsibilities. The Property Mapper Clerk serves as the Secondary office receptionist for the public area, including but not limited to the following responsibilities: greeting visitors, serves as a phone operator, attends to in-person and telephone inquiries within the framework of established office policy, and assists visitors in the public area with PC-based questions and with PC operations as needed. The employee in this role is also responsible for the additional duties listed below.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program.
  • Must possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must possess the ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, and grasping as necessary to carry out job duties.
  • Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands, feet/legs, and torso necessary to carry out job duties.
  • Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with maximum weight of ten pounds.
  • Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.
  • Must demonstrate resourcefulness in decision making and problem solving.
  • Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner to carry out essential job duties.
  • Must possess effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess initiative and problem-solving skills.

  • Must possess ability to maintain confidentiality regarding property records, as applicable.

  • Demonstrate confidence and professionalism when managing phone-based communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Customer service or public facing environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reads legal descriptions and land survey descriptions on deeds, maps, plats, subdivision plans and plots, same relative to existing Dauphin County property tax maps to verify accuracy, and if required, notify mapping administrator.
  • Creates, by plotting, new parcels on working property tax maps for transfer to draftsperson.
  • Prepares data entry forms containing correct transfer of ownership information from recorded instruments for maintenance of the databases.
  • Files, retrieves, and sorts documents alphabetically and numerically.
  • Performs Uniform Parcel Identifier certification – document review prior to recording with the Recorder of Deed’s Office utilizing PC with DEVNET-proprietary software.
  • Effectively accomplishes tasks daily within the policies established relative to transfers and mapping procedures.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
