The fundamental reason this classification exists is to inspect residential and commercial structures and lots for compliance with the International Property Maintenance Code, ordinances, and related regulations and requirements. Employees in this class perform specialized work functions associated with enforcing International Property Maintenance Codes and City of Montgomery codes and ordinances pertaining to deteriorated, dilapidated, and unsanitary conditions, the accumulation of litter, junk, trash, stagnant water, and abandoned vehicles on residential lots hazardous to the public’s health and safety. Although employees receive assistance on new or difficult inspections, most field work is performed independently and requires technical discretion and judgment in inspecting a variety of projects. The work responsibilities include performing interior/exterior inspections; inspecting properties such as lots and other parcels of land within the City limits for compliance with City codes, ordinances, and council resolutions; coordinating abatement of weeds and nuisance on vacant lots and other premises; accepting additional assignments and performing additional duties as required. The work is subject to periodic inspection and review by the Chief Property Maintenance Inspector.
