About The Position

Selective Insurance is seeking a Property Field Claims Specialist for the Chicago, Illinois territory. This is a fully remote position that includes a company vehicle. Applicants must reside in the nearby area or be willing to relocate at their own expense; relocation assistance is not offered. The role provides property claims service across regions, handling Property and Inland Marine claims generally with exposures of $25,000 to $100,000. The specialist investigates claims, estimates property damage, selects and deploys experts, obtains claim documentation, and effects accurate settlements within assigned authority and performance standards. All duties must comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. The position handles typical Business Income losses and joins the LLU as part of the corporate catastrophe team, serving as an initial responder for catastrophe claim events across regions as needs arise. The specialist may assist regional CMS’ with coverage or estimating and responds to legal, regulatory, and appeals requests. Automobile travel within the territory represents approximately 75% of the employee’s time.

Requirements

Ability to work varying shifts.
Knowledge of and proficiency in standard business and claim-specific computer software programs.
Ability to keyboard efficiently and productively.
Valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing and ability to drive an automobile.
Thorough knowledge of Commercial and Personal Lines coverages (preferred).
Computer-based damage estimating experience (preferred).
Prefer 5 years of claims experience.

Responsibilities

Handle Property and Inland Marine claims for the assigned region and assist other regions as needed.
Evaluate and settle primarily property-related damages with aggregate values between $25,000 and $100,000; occasionally handle losses exceeding $100,000 in aggregate claim value.
Handle typical Business Income losses.
Serve as an initial responder for catastrophe claim events across regions as part of the corporate catastrophe team.
Make coverage determinations, negotiate, reserve, and settle claims within established authority.
Provide coverage and/or estimating assistance to regional CMS’ as required by management.
Respond to legal, regulatory, or appeals situations or requests.
Drive an automobile to travel within the territory; car travel accounts for approximately 75% of work time.
