About The Position

Illinois Casualty Company is growing, and we have an opportunity for a Property Claims Supervisor to join one of the leading providers of insurance protection for the food and beverage industry. The Property Claims Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the establishment, maintenance, investigation, documentation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement of property claim files through the supervision of assigned inside and/or outside claims adjusting personnel as well as handling a limited personal caseload of property claims. This position reports to the Claims Manager and may include the supervision of clerical support. In conjunction with the Claims Manager, establishes specific goals for handling claims as well as develops and implements a tactical plan to support goal attainment. Additionally, the Property Claims Supervisor monitors results and takes appropriate action to ensure achievement of established departmental goals. Potential for light travel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 7+ years of experience in the property and casualty claims insurance industry with strong coverage skills (preferably with 2+ years supervisory experience)
  • Ability to write large property damage estimates
  • Ability to engage and interact with contractors, consultants, experts and restoration vendors in determining the appropriate nature and amount of damages
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Maintains and enhances computer skills as dictated by technological advancements and Company initiatives
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form responding to routing inquiries from agents, policyholders, claimants and associates
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply appropriate mathematical functions including, but not limited to calculation of discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages and geometric formulas
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to solve practical and non-routine problems and deal with a number of variables where standardization may not exist
  • Ability to perform regression analysis resulting in reliable projections
  • Ability to interpret extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables

Responsibilities

  • Assigning, monitoring or supervising the assignment of property claims to claims adjusting personnel and usage of outside experts, vendors or independent adjusters as may be required
  • Supervising, directing and evaluating the work of assigned claims adjusting personnel through continuous review of claims (open and closed) to ensure their adherence to departmental, statutory and regulatory claims handling requirements
  • Overseeing development of assigned staff through effective training, coaching and feedback and completion of performance reviews of direct reports
  • Assisting in bringing escalated issues or complaints to closure through effective negotiation, communication and problem solving
  • Participating in the handling of complex, sensitive or unusual property claims as required
  • Ensuring that the appropriate authority is obtained where any management approval is required
  • Ensuring that subrogation and salvage recoveries are actively pursued where appropriate
  • Responding to inquiries from agents, policyholders, claimants, associates and management
  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with agents and their staff members promoting open channels of communication and cooperation with respect to the Company’s claims handling philosophy
  • Playing an instrumental role in choosing competent specialists or vendors and maintaining open channels of communication with them to ensure proper handling of property claims
  • Assisting in the preparation and presentation of claims to Claims Committee or upper management where requested
  • Completing additional duties or assignments as requested
