About The Position

The Hilb Group’s internship offers students an opportunity to explore career paths within an insurance brokerage. Interns receive hands-on training and work closely with members of different teams to learn the business. The opportunity may help lead to a position with the Hilb Group upon graduation.

The intern rotates between the Property & Casualty and Employee Benefits departments, gaining exposure to both lines of coverage. The role supports account teams and contributes to data accuracy, compliance, internal strategy, and special projects. The intern also develops professional communication skills through interactions with internal stakeholders.

Requirements

• Must be able to commute to the Richmond, Virginia office.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort communicating by phone internally.
• Ability to prioritize effectively.
• Willingness and motivation to learn the insurance industry.

Nice To Haves

• Preferably enrolled in an undergraduate program.
• Preferred areas of study include Risk Management & Insurance, Business Management, Marketing Communications, Accounting, Mathematics, or related areas.

Responsibilities

• Rotate between the Property & Casualty and Employee Benefits departments to gain hands-on exposure to both lines of coverage.
• Support account teams with policy documentation, endorsements, renewals, and proposal preparation.
• Assist with data entry, reporting, and quality checks in the agency management system to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Observe and participate in internal strategy meetings to learn about risk assessment, pricing, and client retention strategies.
• Develop an understanding of regulatory and compliance considerations across Property & Casualty and Benefits lines.
• Contribute to special projects aimed at improving internal processes, client experience, or operational efficiency.
• Build professional communication skills through interactions with internal stakeholders.
