The Property Assessor in Training is an entry level professional/technical position within Assessing Services area of the Land Services Department. The training assignment provides the opportunity to acquire professional certification and build expertise in a developmental role that is subject to regular review and oversight. The position is accountable for the assessment of residential, seasonal recreational, agricultural real estate and personal property for revaluations; using cost, market and income approaches to valuation for purposes of ad valorem property tax. The work assignment includes a variety of field and office duties and includes participating in Boards of Appeal and Equalization, providing rationale and basis for valuation and classification of properties appraised. Work is performed within established policies, procedures, laws and regulations. Travel and use of personal vehicle is required. The incumbent works under the direction of the Assessment Supervisor for Land Services and will serve as professional staff support to the Land Services Director, County Administrator and County Board. The position works collaboratively with other various county staff, and external committees, organizations and community members to facilitate an efficient implementation of assessment policies, and to educate citizens on procedures and policies to achieve the vision and goals of the Land Services Department.
