Job Overview Reporting directly to the Senior Property Accountant, the Property Accountant will be in charge of the full accounting cycle of a portfolio of properties. This hands-on role will work closely with various internal departments, including property management, leasing, projects and development. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, solutions-driven and problem-solver that is quick to adapt to a dynamic business environment.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of combined accounting and financial experience in a similar role.
  • A degree in accounting, finance or business administration.
  • Demonstrated experience with full accounting cycle.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong ability to take ownership and accountability within the role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in property management/Real estate is an asset.
  • Experience with Yardi is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Handle full-cycle accounting for a diverse portfolio of commercial properties
  • Complete month-end closing activities including review of journal entries, accrual, reconciliations, and amortization schedules
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Daily and monthly bank reconciliation including follow-up and adjustment of outstanding items
  • Maintain and monitor general ledger and chart of accounts to ensure proper classification of transactions
  • Work closely with property management teams to respond to questions and resolve routine accounting issues including non payment of rent
  • Prepare all property HST remittances and file on time
  • Participate in the annual budget process including delivery of rental statement for the upcoming year
  • Complete year-end operating cost reconciliations
  • Ensure new rental notices are sent to tenants based on the upcoming year’s operating budget
  • Provide accurate and timely financial information as required internally by the team and externally by tenants and other parties
  • Liaise with the team regarding related accounting matters, provide accounting guidance and respond to queries.
  • Additional accounting/special project work as required.
