Prompt Engineer / Conversational Designer

Sensi.AIAustin, TX
Hybrid

About The Position

Sensi.AI is transforming home care through agentic AI. Our AI listens, understands and surfaces what matters in the lives of older adults, so caregivers and families can act before a small change becomes a crisis. As a hyper-growth startup, every person here has an outsized hand in the product and a direct line to the people it helps. This role owns the prompts behind Sensi's growing family of agents — voice, text and summarization — across multiple product lines serving home care agencies, seniors and their families. You'll build new agents from the ground up for new use cases, and you'll own prompt quality across several products and several product managers. The work involves writing and rewriting prompts, designing conversations, testing them against real recordings and transcripts, and iterating based on findings. You'll work directly with product managers on agent requirements and with engineers on implementation. The role is high-stakes due to the user base of older adults and their caregivers, where tone, clarity, and trustworthiness are critical product elements.

Requirements

  • Must be based in Austin, TX, and able to commute to the downtown office 2-3 days per week.
  • Must have real overlap with both Austin and Israel working hours.
  • Approximately 1-2 years of hands-on prompt engineering experience, including writing, building, and iterating on prompts.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing AI interactions, not just assessing others' work.
  • Sufficient technical ability to build some of your own tools and engage in technical discussions with engineers.
  • Strong language and communication skills, with an emphasis on precision, tone, and explaining reasoning.
  • Familiarity with LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
  • Familiarity with conversational frameworks (e.g., LangChain).
  • Excellent writing and linguistic skills, with attention to tone, clarity, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Basic programming skills (Python preferred) for testing and prototyping prompts.
  • Strong cross-functional partnership and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in healthtech, hardware, healthcare, caregiving, or other regulated industries.
  • Multi-lingual proficiency.
  • Experience with Voice Agent tools like VAPI.

Responsibilities

  • Design multi-turn dialogue flows for voice and text agents, incorporating context awareness and memory handling.
  • Define and maintain consistent personality and tone for each agent as the family of agents grows.
  • Write, version, and maintain a prompt library, including system prompts, flows, and reusable templates.
  • Build necessary tooling, such as harnesses or scripts, for proper testing.
  • Test prompts against actual recordings, transcripts, and simulations, both before and after launch.
  • Identify and address issues like hallucinations, incorrect tone, dead ends, and token waste in live interactions.
  • Collaborate with product managers to understand requirements and priorities.
  • Work with engineers to integrate prompts within technical constraints.
  • Support compliance and privacy obligations.
  • Share learnings to influence how other teams work within the organization.
