About The Position

The Promotions Assistant provides support to the staff of the Promotions Team and the Marketing department of the Books Division. The Books Division of the University of Chicago Press has been publishing books for scholars, students, and general readers since 1892. Its mission is to disseminate scholarship of the highest standard, promote education, foster public understanding, and enrich cultural life. The Press’s acquisitions editors acquire and develop books that fulfill this mission, working closely with authors, agents, and institutions.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
  • Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining communications on the department’s behalf, including monitoring phone line and email account.
  • Responding to communications, taking action when necessary.
  • Processing incoming review copy requests and ensuring they are filled in a timely manner.
  • Facilitating requests from the media, including providing requested images and contacting authors for interviews.
  • Processing reviews from media outlets.
  • Overseeing student assistants by coordinating scheduling, delegating tasks, and ensuring the completion of tasks.
  • Serving as the promotions contact and doing media outreach for a select group of client publishers.
  • Conducting media research.
  • Assisting the promotions team with ad-hoc tasks as needed, including semi-annual sales conference preparations and seasonal catalog production.
  • Assists in developing marketing communications, advertising, or publicity materials with a moderate to high level of guidance from others.
  • Performs one or more of the following marketing functions: marketing communications /advertising; Web blogs or digital marketing; market research; development or review and update of the marketing infrastructure and management of external sales agency relationships.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
