About The Position

Reporting to the Vice-Provost, Rayonnement du français, the French Language Promotion and Community Engagement Officer advances initiatives that enhance the visibility, accessibility and integration of French language and culture across the University community. Working closely with internal units, student groups, external stakeholders, the incumbent implements initiatives that foster engagement with the French language, strengthen connections with Quebec society and the Francophonie, and support the University’s objectives. The incumbent contributes to expanding institutional networks, delivering outreach and communications activities, promoting French-language opportunities, and supporting an inclusive environment that encourages participation in French-language programs, services and experiences.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communications, outreach or community engagement initiatives, including events and campaigns.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective partnerships and networks across institutional and community stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of Quebec’s linguistic, cultural and social environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and project management skills, with sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Proficiency with digital platforms and tools (websites, social media, content management systems)
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, cultural studies, or a related field
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, community outreach, institutional relations or a related area
  • Deep knowledge of Quebec’ socio-cultural and political context
  • Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 on a scale of 0-4.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication and outreach initiatives that promote French-language programs, services and opportunities among students, staff and faculty.
  • Plan and deliver large meetings, conferences, special events, and campaigns with a focus on highlighting and celebrating French language and culture on campus and within the broader community. Oversee all logistics while ensuring execution.
  • Collaborate with student groups, Faculties and administrative units to develop communications and increase French-language through out the University. Share information and support the implementation of initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and input into local projects that aim to promote French Language.
  • Build and maintain relationships with unit heads, student associations and external organizations to expand engagement opportunities.
  • Lead consultations with key stakeholders to discern needs and priorities for the Bureau du rayonnement du français
  • Support participation in external partnerships, networks and events that enhance the University’s presence within the Francophonie.
  • Monitor participation and engagement data of campaigns, prepare reports and identify opportunities to strengthen outreach, visibility and impact.
  • Stay informed of emerging practices in communications, community engagement and Francophone initiatives, and apply relevant approaches to ongoing activities.
  • Design and manage digital content while developing and delivering communications, advertising, and promotional materials for events, campaigns, and initiatives.
