About The Position

The Projects Specialist is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and project work related to plant equipment and property. This role involves working closely with the Maintenance Manager on equipment updates and projects, from concept and design through implementation and documentation. The specialist must be able to balance production needs with project timelines, work independently, and potentially train new mechanics. Management will assess qualifications and reserves the right to hire new specialists or adjust the role of existing employees based on performance and potential.

Requirements

  • Must fulfill all the requirements of a Maintenance “A” and Maintenance “Journeyman”
  • Production comes first, must be able to balance downtime with project work
  • Must be able to work with the Maintenance Manager on equipment updates, concepts and projects
  • Able to work on projects from concept, design, material list/ordering and implementation
  • Must be able to document the project when needed (electrical, layout, operation, etc..)
  • Must be willing to work off hours and days to complete projects if needed or to meet timeline
  • Must be able to build electrical panels based off concepts agreed upon with maintenance manager
  • Must understand electrical drawings, ladder programming, and the correlation between them
  • Must understand electrical components (switches, photo eyes, proximity switches, NPN, PNP, NC, NO, sinking, sourcing, digital and analog)
  • Must be able to work with Vendors and Contractors
  • Must answer every call every time when working on something else or even on break and not wait for another mechanic to answer
  • Must be able to communicate well with Management and other mechanics
  • Ability to do assigned work efficiently and independently

Nice To Haves

  • Management has final say as to whether a Mechanic is qualified to be a Project Specialist based on the above criteria.
  • Management reserves right to hire a new Project Specialist mechanic at Project Specialist pay if Management determines new hire has the potential to be able to do all the above within 6 months of hire date.
  • Potential Project Specialist must have outstanding previous experience or a degree in Industrial Maintenance or similar field.
  • If at any time during the first 6 months of employment, Management determines that mechanic does not/cannot meet the qualifications above, Management reserves the right to offer mechanic a lower grade position or employee can bid on an open position in the plant or claim a general production position.

  • Take a leadership role in pass down/wrap meetings
  • Do paperwork in a timely manner
  • Work well without supervision; take on needed duties without being told
  • Help train new mechanics
  • Perform any other assigned duties
  • Lift up to 80 pounds
