Projects Global Quality Leader

GE VernovaSchenectady, NY

About The Position

The QA/QC Lead for Projects is the functional quality leader for the project organization. The role ensures that project execution has robust Quality Control in place to protect the customer, while systematically building Quality Assurance capability to prevent recurrence and improve execution quality over time. This role acts as the “catcher” for the project function, translating central QMS standards into practical execution discipline within projects. The role owns the quality issue management process within the project function, drives data-based problem solving, and escalates high-impact issues into the formal RCA process based on Customer Impact Number (CIN). This role functionally reports to Global Quality and maintains a strong dotted-line relationship with the Global Projects Manager as part of the Project Management team. The position works closely with the Central QMS team, the global RCA function, and cross-functional partners across engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and service to drive quality and project execution objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Operations, Industrial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in quality management, project execution, operations, manufacturing, industrial delivery, or related environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, quality systems, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience leading issue resolution and driving corrective actions in cross-functional environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with 8D, 5 Why, root cause analysis, Pareto analysis, and data-driven decision making.
  • Knowledge of Lean principles, standard work, daily management systems, and performance measurement frameworks.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders, drive accountability, and achieve results across matrixed organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Quality certification, Six Sigma certification, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience within large industrial, energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, or field-service organizations.
  • Strong customer-focused mindset with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • Practical, disciplined, and results-oriented approach to problem solving.
  • Strong coaching, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Effective communicator capable of influencing across technical and business functions.
  • Fact-based decision maker with strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex issues while maintaining appropriate rigor and governance.
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo and escalate risks when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain QC in project execution: Ensure standard quality controls are defined and implemented across project execution phases. Confirm that project teams have clear inspection, verification, handover, and documentation requirements. Establish practical controls to prevent customers from being exposed to known quality constraints. Drive containment actions for active quality issues in ongoing projects. Verify that project quality risks are identified, tracked, and actively managed.
  • Develop QA capability in the project organization: Strengthen process adherence and standard work and quality planning across the full project lifecycle. Ensure lessons learned, recurring issues, and RCA outputs are translated into project ways of working. Drive preventive actions into planning, execution, reviews, and project closeout. Improve the quality maturity of the project organization by moving from reactive issue handling toward preventive management.
  • Own project quality issue management: Collect and consolidate all quality issues arising within the project function. Maintain visibility of open issues, containment actions, due dates, and owners. Pareto project quality issues by frequency, severity, recurrence, and customer consequence. Calculate and maintain Customer Impact Number (CIN) for project-related quality issues. Escalate issues with high CIN into official WIND RCA process. Ensure lower-CIN issues are addressed effectively within the project function.
  • Drive problem solving and RCA discipline: Ensure adequate problem-solving capability exists across the project organization. Coach teams in structured problem solving, including data collection, cause validation, containment, corrective action, and prevention. Support and challenge teams on 8D/5Y quality and closure effectiveness. Partner with the global RCA function to ensure major issues have clear ownership, timing, and progress. Verify that corrective and preventive actions are implemented and sustained.
  • Link project quality to QMS and daily management: Ensure central QMS standards are understood and applied within the project function. Provide feedback to QMS on process gaps, unclear requirements, and recurring failures. Help translate mature RCA learnings into updates to standard work, controls, checklists, and governance. Establish relevant daily, weekly, and monthly quality management routines and KPI follow-up for projects. Use leading indicators, not only lagging indicators, to monitor project quality health.
