About The Position

Oversee and manage numerous rail grinding and rail milling teams. This role involves approving expenses, approving payroll, scheduling rotations, and participating in the hiring of new team members. The position requires a basic understanding of rail treatment, the ability to identify rail surface defects (spalling, corrugation, engine burns), and an understanding of how track geometry and substructure influence rail surface conditions. The Project Superintendent will assess and/or survey rail conditions, develop long-term rail treatment plans, and provide input for the annual budget while overseeing cost control for rail grinding and milling programs. Knowledge of the differences between rail grinding and rail milling, and when to perform each, is essential, as is a basic understanding of their operations. Responsibilities also include operational set-up (grinders, watch trucks, final patrol) and completing on-site inspections and audits of equipment. The role requires the ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot rail grinding and milling equipment, or learn to do so.

Requirements

  • At least 5-7 years railways experience in the railway Engineering Department
  • Familiarity with grinding and milling practices and procedures common to the industry
  • Coordinating/influencing skills
  • Strong communicator across multiple functions
  • Required to be on call on a regular basis outside of normal business hours and workdays
  • Proficient with a computer (Microsoft Office)
  • Already has or is able to obtain a Passport

  • Basic understanding of rail treatment
