About The Position

This position is responsible for providing family counseling and support services within the Athabascan Behavioral Health Clinic Project using the Athabascan Recovery Model of traditional Athabascan Values of love for children, family unit relationships, self-sufficiency, care & provisioning for family, practicing of Native Traditions, respecting wisdom from life experiences, respecting Elders, and others, promoting spirituality, and sharing & caring of community.

Requirements

  • Ability to report to work in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and mental health; and appropriate skills in working with consumers with Mental Health/Substance Use disorders.
  • Skill in working successfully with the Alaska Native/American Indian population and experience providing culturally specific programming; understanding of and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles.
  • Skill in operating/using computers and using Windows, Word, and Excel with ability to accurately input information into reporting formats.
  • Above average communication and people skills with the ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge on how to best assist possible escalated individuals during data collection process.
  • Ability to protect confidentiality is essential; HIPAA & 42 CFR compliant.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret/understand billing procedures.
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meeting their deadlines.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, agencies, and consumers.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years’ experience working with AN/AI population.
  • Two (2) years’ experience working with families.
  • A combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates family support services through Family Training using evidence-based practices in a traditional way in alignment with treatment schedule.
  • Guides families through their experience navigating mental health system.
  • Supports consumer’s family during their treatment experience providing positive feedback and hope.
  • Provides consumers with peer counseling to strengthen relationships with supportive family members.
  • Works in both outpatient units of the clinic: mental health and substance misuse.
  • Meets with designated consumer family members monthly, with possibility of off-site support at home of family member.
  • Works with families to understand and address risk factors and connects consumers with resources and support services.
  • Ensure adherence to data collection requirements and enters accurate and timely data into the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Attends mandatory position training that provides training in risk factors as designated by Project Manager and/or Clinical Supervisor.
  • Maintains consumer confidentiality in accordance with 42 CFR Part 2 and HIPPA.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement and data-driven decision-making processes to assess program efficacy and drive quality improvement.
  • Attends all required staff meetings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
