S:US is seeking a Peer Specialist for their men's shelter in Brooklyn. This position is located at Ralph Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11233. The Peer Specialist will be responsible for outreach, engagement, and bridge building by forging strong connections with participants and families, undertaking outreach activities to promote community awareness of S:US services, encouraging help-seeking, and serving as a bridge between team members and participants. They will develop authentic, meaningful relationships through empathy, sharing experiences, and listening. The role involves embracing creative narratives by understanding and discussing life experiences such as psychosis with participants and the team, using language to make space for stories of recovery and resilience. Peer Specialists will advocate with and for program participants, co-create support and wellness tools with participants, and positively influence team culture by advocating for clients, promoting a youth-friendly approach, and encouraging recovery-oriented language. They will also maintain open and frequent communication with the team, reporting concerns and keeping notes on visits, with co-collaboration on reporting encouraged.
