About The Position

We are currently seeking a Project & Shutdown Management Lead to join our Project Execution team in Voisey’s Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This is a permanent on-site position, working a 2 week on/2 week off rotation at the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site. As a Project & Shutdown Management Lead, you will lead projects ($10-15M annually) assigned by Project & Shutdown Superintendent including the management and co-ordination of all activities from FEL 1 studies through AFE approval, execution and handover to the Project Owner. This includes management of detailed engineering design, procurement, project controls (Safety, Scope, Schedule, Quality, Cost), systems, construction support and management services for individual Projects. They will also work with Site operational planning teams to create the Master Schedule for the Plant shutdowns. Additionally, in this position you will: Lead PHRs, JHAs, MOCs, Lift Plans and manage the Project Risk registry as required for the safe execution of the project. Supervise the safe execution of field project work (executed by external or internal resources) as required. Develop and implement project safety strategies. Create and manage Field Work Instructions and Contract Change Orders. Coordinate and resolve contract issues with support from peers, Engineering, Contract Management Office, Safety Supervisors and Procurement. Routinely forecast adherence to schedule, critical path, slippage, and actions being taken to meet milestones and final completion date. Lead the development of Shutdown Schedules incorporating all work to be performed during a shutdown, coordinating all site activities. Perform regular field visits to ensure compliance to commissioning, quality, and operational readiness processes. Ensure project and contract cost estimates are properly calibrated against other projects and contracts, verify that the planned costs in SAP are aligned with estimated project cost.

Requirements

  • A degree in engineering or technical or trades diploma is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management related role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Vale Production System (VPS) Technical, project management principles and strategies and strong project management skills is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • P. Eng designation or P. Tech is preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) is an asset.
  • Experience in a mining environment is preferred.
