About The Position

The Project SEARCH Trainer provides individualized support to Project SEARCH participants during their internships at host businesses. The goal is to help participants acquire competitive and marketable skills, leading to employment. This role involves developing task analyses, implementing training strategies in collaboration with instructors and business staff, and identifying/developing internship sites. The trainer also helps participants understand and adhere to host business culture, rules, and expectations, and consults with department employees on supportive tools and techniques. Additionally, the trainer participates in training interns on essential employment-related skills such as grooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing, and work/social behavior. They assess intern progress, provide feedback, assist with assessments to determine participant abilities and task demands for meaningful internship matches, and offer travel training for independent commuting. The trainer communicates regularly with the Project SEARCH instructor regarding participant progress and any issues affecting success, and is responsible for completing necessary paperwork and data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individualized support for Project SEARCH participants during internships at host businesses to acquire competitive and marketable skills.
  • Develops task analysis to support participants in learning and performing tasks to required productivity and quality standards.
  • Identifies and implements training strategies and/or services in coordination with the Project SEARCH instructor and host business staff.
  • Works collaboratively to identify and develop internship sites that offer a variety of opportunities to build marketable, competitive skills that lead to employment.
  • Learns the host business site culture, rules, and expectations within each department and assists interns to understand and comply.
  • Consults with host business department employees on tools and techniques that support intern learning and success.
  • Participates in training interns in the areas of grooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing, and work/social behavior as they relate to successful employment.
  • Assists with completing assessments to determine the abilities of the participants, the demands of the internship tasks, and help the team make meaningful internship matches.
  • Assesses intern progress and gives feedback to interns and team members.
  • Provides travel training for participants to get to the host business independently.
  • Communicates with Project SEARCH instructor regarding issues that may affect the participant’s success at an internship or in employment.
  • Submits and completes appropriate paperwork and enters data in the Member Portal.
