The Role The Project Planning Engineer plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of stamping operations by leading the planning of press equipment projects outlined in the Stamping Capital Infrastructure Long-Term Plan (LTP). This strategic position ensures that stamping plants are equipped to support upcoming vehicle programs and aligns capital investments with long-term business objectives. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and financial acumen, strong independent judgment, and exceptional cross-functional leadership. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Project Planning Engineer receives only occasional guidance from supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology or equivalent
  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Understanding of GMS, stamping manufacturing processes, and press equipment.
  • Experience in cost analysis and business case development.
  • Ability to utilize AI & ML models to improve budget establishment and automating study responses.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects effectively.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Skilled at managing ambiguity and driving clarity in uncertain situations
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on MS Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree – technical or MBA
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing or stamping operations.
  • Familiarity with long-term capital planning and infrastructure strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the project scoping process for multiple concurrent projects, which includes defining the project scope, cost, and timing for all press equipment projects and 4-Walls spending.
  • Develop project presentations and review with senior leadership to support building an investment plan and support the Long-Term Plan including AR approval.
  • Demonstrate cross functional leadership with press engineering, project management, allocations, integration, strategic planning, and finance.
  • Support Manufacturing Planning Studies (MPS) for new model programs.
  • Manage the Global Bill of Equipment (BoE) in coordination with press engineering and integration teams.
  • Provide strategic input on capital allocation and infrastructure planning.
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy, exercising independent judgment and decision-making.
