About The Position

Manages multiple concurrent transmission electric system capital improvement projects from initiation through completion. Responsible for assembling and coordinating cross-functional project teams for high-priority projects to ensure they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget. This role involves facilitating project meetings, acting as an escalation point for issues and risks, monitoring and controlling project costs, and communicating project status to leadership and stakeholders. The Project Manager will also review contractor quotes, change orders, and invoices, and work collaboratively with personnel across the company to achieve project objectives.

Requirements

  • Associate Level: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education. OR Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in electric utility construction or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Intermediate Level: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or relevant, with a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in the electric utility industry or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education; OR Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in electric utility construction.
  • Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or relevant, with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in the electric utility industry or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education; OR Minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in electric utility construction or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, direct and motivate a team comprised of a cross-functional group of resources.
  • Familiarity with creating a project schedule.
  • Some experience with identifying alternative solutions and in performing risk assessments.
  • Some experience in coordinating and negotiating with outside vendors or third parties to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Possesses effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously.
  • Required to travel on short notice.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Transmission electric system capital project experience strongly preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) preferred.
  • Experience in creating a project schedule using Primavera, Microsoft Project or equivalent scheduling software application preferred.
  • Familiarity with electric utility construction processes preferred.
  • Familiarity with electric substation and line equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages multiple concurrent transmission electric system capital improvement projects from project initiation through project completion.
  • Assembles and coordinates cross-functional project teams for high-priority projects.
  • Leads project teams to successfully complete projects on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Facilitates development of a detailed baseline project schedule, identifying critical path and important milestones.
  • Updates construction dates for assigned projects monthly.
  • Monitors progress towards the schedule by all groups.
  • Identifies at-risk activities and addresses issues to prevent schedule delays.
  • Facilitates various project meetings (status, coordination, scheduling, lessons learned, etc.).
  • Acts as escalation point for project issues, risks, and change requests.
  • Manages and resolves project issues, escalating concerns to leadership as needed.
  • Monitors and controls project costs through cash flow projections and variance analysis.
  • Reviews construction contractor quotes and issues PO requisitions.
  • Reviews and approves construction contractor change orders and invoices.
  • Communicates project status, issues, and risks to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Works with personnel from all areas of the company to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
