About The Position

The Project Manager supervises a team of General Forepersons and their crews, ensuring the proper administration, communication, and enforcement of work practices. This includes policy enforcement, quality and quantity of work production, safety practices, employee relations, and interpretation of Union Agreements. The role involves working with Human Resources on all aspects of crew member employment, including hiring, discipline, separation, leaves of absence, and policy enforcement. The Project Manager is responsible for promoting sound employee relations, managing conflicts, and participating in drug testing and reasonable suspicion training. They will train and coach employees, conduct safety training, and manage daily production tasks, ensuring accuracy of records and reports. This role requires communication with customers, property owners, the public, other contractors, and utility/governmental representatives, maintaining a professional demeanor on behalf of Wright Tree Service. The Project Manager must comply with all company manuals and materials. The work environment involves hazardous equipment, proximity to energized power lines, excessive noise, and exposure to various temperatures, weather conditions, and natural elements. The role may involve working on rough terrain and performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews and/or successfully completed applicable performance reviews.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Basic knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits, and correct arboricultural techniques.
  • Knowledge of American National Standards for Tree Care Operations (ANSI Z133.1-2000).
  • Knowledge of American National Standards for Proper Pruning (ANSI A300).
  • Understanding of OSHA rules and guidelines.
  • Experience with computers, focusing on Microsoft Office products.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical circuits and skill in reading/understanding circuit maps.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Enforces on-the-job safety practices.
  • Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather.
  • Ability to write, read, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information.
  • Ability to communicate with others and represent Wright Tree Service professionally.
  • Ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis and up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
  • Has a valid driver’s license (CDL), medical card.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Has ISA Certification.
  • Maintains a herbicide applicator or operators certification and license as required.
  • Has valid First-Aid and CPR cards.

Nice To Haves

  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to South Dakota or Colorado, preferably near Rapid City, SD or Colorado Springs, CO.
  • Must hold a valid ISA Certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL A) or obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • Must hold a current applicable state herbicide applicator license.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required - approximately 20% or more.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a team of General Forepersons and their crews, responsible for administration, communication, and enforcement of supervisory and economic work practices.
  • Manages employment for crew members in coordination with Human Resources, including hiring, discipline, separation, and leaves of absence.
  • Interviews potential candidates and ensures proper new hire procedures are followed.
  • Promotes sound employee relations and manages employee conflicts.
  • Participates in training for oral drug testing and understands reasonable suspicion obligations.
  • Trains and coaches employees, evaluates performance, and provides feedback.
  • Conducts safety training, stand downs, and tailgate trainings.
  • Manages daily production tasks and ensures accuracy of all records and reports.
  • Provides reports on orders completed, crew time, and distribution.
  • Investigates accident reports and damage claims, and may settle minor claims.
  • Responsible for control of crew costs through effective manpower use, work methods, and equipment operation.
  • Stays informed of new equipment specifications, standard practices, and operating procedures.
  • Maintains contact with customers, property owners, the public, other contractors, and representatives of utilities and governmental agencies.
  • Communicates and complies with all written Wright Tree Service manuals and materials.
  • Works around hazardous equipment and in close proximity to energized power lines.
  • Works around excessive noise and must wear proper personal protective equipment.
  • Is exposed to all temperatures and weather, and natural elements.
  • May work on rough terrain.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
