Miyamoto International is a global engineering and disaster management firm dedicated to making the world a safer place. The Disaster Risk Management group specializes in disaster risk reduction, response, reconstruction, and urban resilience, utilizing a data-driven, multidisciplinary approach to address complex challenges in demanding environments. The firm excels in developing strategies for post-conflict and disaster recovery, including creating resilient, affordable housing systems. This Project Manager role, based in the Los Angeles office, will oversee the implementation of global disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and resilience programs, with a strong emphasis on contract/award management. Working under Senior Principals, the Project Manager will collaborate with technical specialists, country teams, and support staff to ensure effective, timely, and budget-compliant program delivery according to donor requirements. The role involves day-to-day oversight of program implementation, including work planning, budget management, reporting, compliance, procurement coordination, risk management, and contract administration. The position requires flexibility for deployment to disaster-affected countries and supporting rapid establishment of project systems during emergencies. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, international relations, emergency management, engineering, project management, or another relevant field.
  • Approximately 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in project, program, or contract/award management, including demonstrated responsibility for budgets, reporting, project administration, and coordination of complex projects.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or workstreams across teams, locations, or stakeholders is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of project and grant management processes, including work planning, budgeting and financial monitoring, reporting, procurement and contracting, compliance, and project administration.
  • Experience with donor-funded programs is highly desirable, as is familiarity with U.S. Government-funded programs and 2 CFR / U.S. federal award requirements.
  • Strong project management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong budget management and financial tracking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and reporting skills.
  • Ability to establish practical project management systems and work effectively with technical, financial, and operational teams.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, project management platforms, and related digital and AI tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across remote, multidisciplinary, and multicultural teams and across different time zones.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, take initiative, and adapt quickly in fast-moving environments.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and deploy to disaster-affected locations as needed.
  • Professional fluency in English required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in humanitarian assistance, disaster risk management, or other rapidly changing operational environments is an advantage but not required.
  • Spanish highly preferred.
  • Additional languages are an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day implementation of global disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and reconstruction programs, ensuring activities are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with program and donor requirements.
  • Lead project planning and management, including development and oversight of workplans, budgets, implementation schedules, deliverables, reporting calendars, and project management systems.
  • Oversee contract and grant/award requirements, including reporting, compliance, documentation, procurement and contracting processes, and coordination of required approvals and modifications.
  • Manage project budgets in close coordination with operations, finance, and program teams, including expenditure monitoring, forecasting, budget-to-actual review, and identification of potential financial or implementation issues.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary, international, and in-country teams to support effective program delivery, problem-solving, and timely decision-making.
  • Work closely with Sr. Principals and technical leadership to ensure project activities and deliverables are effectively planned, resourced, coordinated, and completed to the required quality and timelines.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of donor reports, workplans, program updates, and other required project and contract/award deliverables.
  • Monitor project risks, implementation challenges, and compliance requirements and proactively work with project leadership and teams to identify and implement solutions.
  • Coordinate procurement, consultant contracting, and other operational requirements in collaboration with finance, operations, technical teams, and external advisors as appropriate.
  • Maintain strong project and grant management systems and ensure project documentation and records are complete, organized, and maintained in accordance with donor and organizational requirements.
  • Support communication and coordination with donors, government counterparts, humanitarian organizations, partners, and other stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to Project Coordinators and other project support staff and help establish effective project management practices across country teams.
  • Support the rapid mobilization and management of disaster-response operations, including deployment planning, budgeting, contracting, coordination, information management, and establishment of project management systems.
  • Contribute to program design, proposal development, budgeting, lessons learned, and continuous improvement of Miyamoto’s global disaster response and preparedness programming.
  • As needed, this role may involve international travel and participation in country-level disaster-response deployments.
