About The Position

The Project Manager is responsible for all aspects of the design and construction of significant projects or highly specialized and critical components within these projects. Projects are often characterized by their complexity. The Project Manager will exercise independent judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining satisfactory results and may oversee, manage, supervise, or provide guidance to other Facilities Project Managers and / or Analysts. Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Infrastructure Programs, the incumbent is accountable for construction management, monitoring construction contract compliance and coordination services in support of the campus departments to ensure the construction phases of projects are on schedule, high-quality, cost-effective, and appropriate to the project needs. This involves all elements of construction management from cost estimating through construction phase closeout including initial estimating, safety compliance, contract compliance, coordination and closeout of large and small projects. The incumbent works with the program managers, senior project managers and project managers to organize, plan, and control the construction efforts on projects in the Building Renewal Program. Also, may be called upon to assist with FIN (Facilities Investment Needs) projects as needed. This involves working with program managers, project managers and facility managers in selecting general contractors and subcontractors, coordinating the activities of multiple general contractors on multiple project sites, construction inspectors, and others associated with the projects; monitoring project progress and quality; resolving problems that arise in the projects; working with state agency officials to ensure compliance and safety. The incumbent has first line responsibility to communicate effectively with project stakeholders regarding construction activity impacts and schedules.

Requirements

Significant project management experience in design and construction.
Experience managing complex projects.
Ability to exercise independent judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining satisfactory results.
Experience in construction management, including contract compliance and coordination services.
Proficiency in cost estimating and construction phase closeout.
Knowledge of safety compliance and contract compliance.
Experience working with program managers, senior project managers, and project managers.
Experience in selecting general contractors and subcontractors.
Experience coordinating multiple general contractors on multiple project sites.
Experience monitoring project progress and quality.
Experience resolving project-related problems.
Experience working with state agency officials to ensure compliance and safety.
Effective communication skills for project stakeholders.

Responsibilities
