Project Manager - Data Center Water Treatment

ChemTreat•Phoenix, AZ
•$130,000 - $140,000

About The Position

ChemTreat is seeking a Project Manager to manage its water treatment scope for the PHX13 data center project. The position coordinates work with district leadership, technical specialists, field personnel, the construction team, contractors, the owner, commissioning representatives, and equipment providers. It manages project activities from preconstruction planning and procurement through field execution, commissioning support, and final turnover. The scope includes mechanical system flushing, chemical cleaning, passivation, neutralization and rinsing, deionized (DI) water production and filling, temporary pumping and filtration, water quality monitoring, and glycol filling for designated systems. The Project Manager applies practical mechanical knowledge alongside scheduling, cost control, documentation, procurement, and contractor coordination skills, and coordinates concurrent work areas while maintaining distinct records for separate contracts and systems. Work must follow approved technical procedures, defined contractual responsibilities, and required project acceptance approvals. The role includes regular coordination at an active construction project as well as project office work, including job walks, equipment inspections, planning meetings, and field verification in indoor and outdoor conditions. Applicable personal protective equipment is required. Essential functions must be performable with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
  • At least 3 years of relevant project management experience in industrial water treatment, mechanical construction, commissioning support, or comparable industrial field projects, with increasing responsibility for execution and results.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and equipment submittals and translate requirements into practical work plans, schedules, and field coordination activities.
  • Working knowledge of closed-loop piping, pumps, valves, filtration, flow, pressure, and basic system operation, and ability to identify technical issues and engage appropriate specialists.
  • Experience managing schedules, budgets, procurement, vendors or subcontractors, and change documentation on projects involving multiple stakeholders and site dependencies.
  • Ability to coordinate field personnel and service providers, manage competing priorities, resolve problems, maintain project records, and follow approval processes.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, written reporting, project scheduling tools, and electronic document control systems, including accurate cost, equipment, and progress tracking.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, strong organization, sound judgment, attention to detail, and ability to build productive working relationships with customers, contractors, and internal teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data center construction, mission-critical facilities, mechanical startup, or commissioning and turnover of cooling systems.
  • Direct experience with closed-loop flushing, chemical cleaning, passivation, corrosion control, DI water systems, or industrial water treatment projects.
  • Experience coordinating temporary pumping and filtration systems, mobile DI services, fluid transfer, chemical handling, or water quality testing.
  • Familiarity with glycol-based heat transfer fluids, concentration testing, material compatibility, filling procedures, and fluid quality documentation.
  • Familiarity with liquid cooling systems, CDUs, heat exchangers, corrosion monitoring, treatment controllers, or conductivity and flow instrumentation.
  • Experience with construction document management, scheduling, and drawing review platforms such as Procore, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or Bluebeam.
  • PMP certification, relevant construction safety training, or comparable project delivery credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain execution plans, milestone and look-ahead schedules, resource plans, and readiness checklists for mobilization, treatment, testing, final fill, and turnover.
  • Review contracts, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, equipment submittals, and approved procedures to identify system boundaries, scope gaps, dependencies, and required approvals.
  • Coordinate with contractors, the owner, commissioning representatives, ChemTreat personnel, and equipment providers; lead job walks and meetings and track action items, decisions, access needs, and trade conflicts.
  • Coordinate concurrent work across data halls or system segments while maintaining separate scope, cost, equipment, and acceptance records for distinct contracts and water and glycol systems.
  • Coordinate approved flushing, chemical cleaning, passivation, neutralization, rinsing, DI filling, and startup activities, as well as glycol receipt, handling, quality checks, and final fills where required.
  • Work with technical specialists and equipment providers to review flow, pump duty, system head loss, filtration capacity, pressure ratings, and temporary hose and piping arrangements against approved requirements.
  • Confirm system isolation, temporary connections, sampling points, utilities, and equipment interfaces are ready before each work phase; coordinate protection of sensitive equipment and compliance with manufacturer requirements.
  • Review field flow, pressure, filter differential pressure, and water quality records; identify deviations, operating constraints, or equipment service needs and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Track approved chemical requirements, equipment compatibility, treatment durations, and release points; escalate specification conflicts and obtain required approval before changes to treatment methods, equipment, or acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate vendor quotations, scope comparisons, technical submittals, purchase requisitions, and delivery commitments; support RFPs, estimating, and proposal development for assigned work or changes.
  • Plan delivery, offloading, placement, rental periods, servicing, and demobilization of temporary pumps, filters, DI equipment, storage tanks, hoses, instrumentation, chemicals, and other assigned equipment.
  • Match DI water supply, storage, chemical deliveries, filtration support, and vendor service availability to the execution schedule; track long-lead items, consumables, and contingency needs.
  • Coordinate water collection, storage capacity, approved discharge routes, and release timing; track temporary and permanent equipment separately and confirm designated equipment remains in place at turnover.
  • Maintain budgets, purchase commitments, labor and equipment forecasts, rental utilization, and cost-to-complete estimates; identify cost or schedule variances and recommend corrective action.
  • Document scope changes, RFIs, field constraints, and cost and schedule impacts; obtain commercial and technical approvals within delegated authority before committing to changed work.
  • Maintain daily progress records and provide status reports on completed work, upcoming milestones, resources, risks, and required decisions; support invoice review, billing documentation, and final cost reconciliation.
  • Coordinate baseline, in-process, and final sampling, field testing, laboratory submissions, and sample traceability; track results against project specifications and approved acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain records of flow conditions, treatment times, chemical additions, pH, conductivity or resistivity, turbidity or particle results, and other specified parameters; confirm measuring equipment readiness and calibration records.
  • Track inspections, witness points, approvals, deficiencies, and corrective actions; coordinate reinspection or retesting and document authorization to proceed.
  • Compile turnover packages with approved procedures, test reports, treatment logs, equipment records, operation and maintenance information, drawing updates, punch-list closure, and acceptance documentation; capture lessons learned and coordinate handoff to service personnel.
  • Apply company and site safety requirements within ChemTreat’s scope; coordinate pre-task planning, permits, SDS, PPE, chemical handling, and containment with qualified personnel.
  • Confirm hazard reviews and controls for temporary pumping, pressurized connections, electrical interfaces, equipment movement, isolation, and energy control before work proceeds.
  • Coordinate spill prevention, housekeeping, and approved discharge controls; promptly address and escalate unsafe conditions, incidents, and environmental concerns through company and site reporting processes.
