About The Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Public Gardens and Landscapes, the Project Manager coordinates every aspect of operations and logistics for their assigned projects within PHS’ Public Gardens and Landscape projects (fee-for-service and Legacy Landscape contracts). This position delivers horticultural services through on site management of contractors, full-time and seasonal staff, and oversees a Pop-Up Gardener. The Project Manager regularly communicates with clients, PHS staff, the public, and other stakeholders about the work, needs, and goals of each public garden and landscape assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture or horticulture preferred
  • 3–5 years of field experience in public horticulture, design-build firm, landscape management, or related fields relevant to the job
  • Pesticide Applicator License (preferred)
  • DOT Medical Card (preferred)
  • Driver’s License: Required
  • Basic proficiency in site analysis, design, and grading detailing
  • Experience with plant orders and specifications
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while adhering to deadlines and budgets
  • Landscape design and maintenance supervision skills
  • Knowledge of power equipment and hand tools
  • Ability to communicate verbally and graphically to diverse populations
  • Good team player

Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of Public Garden and Landscape contracts including all fee-for-services and Legacy Landscape projects assigned. Ensures contracts are fulfilled within budgeted cost and timeframe, and meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Oversees ongoing maintenance operations for assigned public gardens and landscapes.
  • Interfaces with Finance team to monitor budgets and contract expectations (hours, supplies, etc.) and for fee-for-service projects assures that they are profitable.
  • Manages the Pop-Up Gardener. Creates and communicates work schedules and task lists related to projects and client requests.
  • Works with public landscapes team and other departments to prepare site analysis, designs, cost estimates, drawings, procurement lists and specifications for landscape renovation projects.
  • Meets regularly with landscape contractors to assure all aspects of installation and maintenance are carried out under Public Gardens and Landscapes management specifications.
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with PHS staff, partners, clients, consultants, contractors, vendors, and gardeners to assure project goals are realized.
  • Meets or exceeds existing clients’ or partners’ expectations by soliciting and translating their needs into appropriate project results.
  • Coordinates project administration and documentation by producing clear, accurate and informative meeting agendas and minutes: findings and reports, follow-up plans, and project evaluations.
  • Provides technical assistance, related to landscape design, construction, and organic maintenance, to advocate for responsible and successful techniques and approaches.
  • Occasional field work on public landscapes sites that may include planting and installations, horticultural maintenance, tree planting/pruning, grounds maintenance work, and any other related tasks as assigned or determined essential.
