About The Position

As a Project Manager, you will lead and deliver joint projects on behalf of Conexus’ national and international members. You will also oversee an auditing services program that supports a growing nuclear supply chain, ensuring equipment and services meet stringent nuclear quality standards. In this role, you will contribute to the advancement of clean energy solutions globally by supporting projects that extend the life of existing CANDU reactors and implement advanced technologies, including automation and AI. You will proactively engage stakeholders, foster collaboration across Conexus members, and identify opportunities to support impactful global initiatives.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in relevant Engineering program, with mechanical, electrical and/or a specialization in nuclear engineering preferred.
  • At least 5 years' experience as a Project Lead or Project Manager in the nuclear or other safety sensitive environment with at least 5 years in managing small to medium projects (ranging in the $150K to $550K) of medium to high complexity with a project team.
  • Understanding of the principles of Quality Management Systems, Quality Assurance, Canadian and International Standards and Codes related to the design and procurement of nuclear components and systems (i.e. CSA N299, N286, N286.7 Standards and ASME NQA-1, ASME BPV Code Section III: Subsection NCA).
  • Knowledge of the principles of the CANDU nuclear power plant design and operation including design, manufacturing, operation and/or maintenance of equipment and systems associated with nuclear generating stations.
  • Technically savvy, ability to understand and lead technical activities and discussions with diverse groups ranging from Engineering, Supply Chain and Operations.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong presentation and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to facilitate groups and build consensus.
  • Previous experience with MS SharePoint, Project, or Access and/or other enterprise project management software.
  • MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams) proficiency.
  • Knowledge of project management methods, procedures, and organization structures to ensure projects are managed in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Experience as a Project Lead or Project Manager of at least 5 years in managing small to medium projects (approx.$150K to $550K), of medium to high complexity with a project team.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, including mechanical, electrical, thermohydraulic, materials, power systems, associated with electrical power production including large plant processes such as principles of operation, reliability and maintainability.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Quality Assurance, Canadian and International Standards and Codes related to the design and procurement of nuclear components and systems (i.e. CSA N299, N286, N286.7 Standards and ASME NQA-1, ASME BPV Code Section III: Subsection NCA).
  • Experience in applying engineering principles in the areas of design, manufacturing, operation and/or maintenance of equipment and systems associated with nuclear generating stations.
  • Understanding of the inter-relationships of various internal and external groups involved in the design, manufacture, operation, maintenance and supply chain activities associated with nuclear generating stations.
  • Written and oral communication skills to prepare concise, clear correspondence, presentations, minutes, proposals and to articulate requirements.
  • Effective verbal, written and presentation communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience gained by facilitating in-person and/or virtual meetings.

Nice To Haves

  • Project management certification such as Project Management Professional (PMP) is an asset – including risk management.
  • Knowledge and/or experience related to CANDU licensing basis or CANDU processes, systems and major components is considered an asset.
  • Financial acumen, including supply chain and procurement experience is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership for facilitating assigned joint nuclear projects related to nuclear technology.
  • Proactively seek out opportunities to enhance program delivery and performance, encourage Member engagement, build program visibility and awareness regarding the value delivered to the stakeholders.
  • Support Members by soliciting agreement on the project scope and timelines, tracking and reporting on project performance and providing high-level stakeholder value and insights on behalf of the industry.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Members by assisting in strategic decisions and initiatives, mitigating risks, managing issues and identifying opportunities within assigned program areas.
  • Initiate, co-ordinate and manage multiple joint projects simultaneously to achieve the defined objectives of scope, quality, schedule and cost.
  • Initiate, co-ordinate and manage bulk procurement of engineered spare parts which are of interest and meet the needs of two or more participants in accordance with the Joint Projects and Services Governing Documents.
  • Liaise with potential participants and other stakeholders to develop project proposals.
  • Apply Project Management methodology to document, communicate and administer key project management processes (e.g. scope, schedule, issue, risk, quality, communication and financial). This may involve development of project execution plans.
  • Develop and control scope, cost and schedules for assigned projects.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting is available to internal and external stakeholders for all projects.
  • Responsible for project vendor selection process including request for proposals, conducting bid review and negotiation commercial terms & conditions with support from project participants and Conexus Business Services team.
  • Manage contractors, consultants and vendor resources as appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the project management process.
  • Evaluate project and lessons learned via post-project review and close-out processes.
  • Represent Conexus at industry meetings, workshops, committees and inter-disciplinary task groups as required.
  • Perform other duties as required to support procurement operations.
