About The Position

The Project Manager of World Languages Education at the Oklahoma State Department of Education is responsible for leading and supporting world language programs across the state. This role involves collaborating with language organizations, providing professional development, advising on national and international trends, and managing resources and initiatives related to world language education. The Project Manager will serve as a key contact for educators, organizations, and policymakers, ensuring that world language instruction aligns with state standards and promotes global competency. This role requires a consistent, in-person presence at the designated workplace in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and does not offer remote, telecommuting, or hybrid options.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a World Language other than English [official transcripts required upon hire]
Possession of a valid Oklahoma teaching certificate in a World Language other than English
Four (4) years of experience teaching or coordinating the instruction of world languages in PK-12
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship
Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
Must possess a valid driver’s license from a U.S. state or territory to perform necessary job-related travel

Responsibilities

Collaborate with language organizations to organize and conduct professional development workshops and institutes for both elementary and secondary educators, focusing on the implementation of World Languages Other than English (WLOE) standards, curriculum alignment, vertical teaming, and research-based instructional methods.
Visit schools to evaluate and enhance world language programs, providing recommendations on materials, methods, teaching media, instructional techniques, and professional development opportunities.
Provide professional development for educators across the state through videoconferences, webcasts, and webinars as appropriate, ensuring widespread access to training resources.
Organize and manage a consortium of WLOE curriculum specialists throughout the state, fostering collaboration and the sharing of best practices among educators.
Attend and present sessions at state, regional, and national organizations for world language professionals, such as the Oklahoma Foreign Language Teachers’ Association (OFLTA), the Southwest Conference on Language Teaching (SWCOLT), the National Council of State Supervisors for Languages (NCSSFL), and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), to stay informed on current trends, methods, and techniques for PK-12 language study.
Advise State Department of Education officials on national trends in world languages and international education, ensuring that state programs are aligned with global best practices.
Represent the State Department of Education as a consultant and speaker at meetings of professional, business, and community organizations with an international focus, promoting world languages and international education.
Continue collaborations with teacher colleges and other organizations responsible for training world language educators, particularly in relation to state standards and addressing WLOE teacher shortages.
Serve as the agency’s contact and resource person for international guest teacher programs, working with the certification division to process certification documents for visiting guest teachers and Native American Language (NAL) educators.
Maintain the agency’s WLOE website, posting resources and announcements, and manage the WLOE Listserv to keep educators informed of relevant updates.
Organize the review and revision of world language standards, coordinated with the textbook subject cycle every six years, to ensure curriculum alignment with state and national expectations.
Support the activities of the State Board of Education by analyzing, synthesizing, and summarizing information on world languages and international education, preparing draft responses for board presentations.
Design and prepare training materials to improve classroom management and culture, collaborating with other content specialists in Curriculum and Instruction to enhance overall educational outcomes.
