About The Position

We have an opportunity for an outstanding individual to join our team as a Project Manager - Transportation Drainage in our Phoenix office. We are seeking an experienced drainage-focused Project Manager with a strong background in hydrology and hydraulics, a passion for transportation engineering, and a proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams. In this role, you will leverage your technical expertise and leadership skills to deliver high-quality drainage solutions for roadway and infrastructure projects across Arizona.

Requirements

  • 8–12+ years of progressive experience in transportation drainage/hydraulics engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Arizona or ability to obtain reciprocity
  • Demonstrated experience delivering drainage design for transportation projects (ADOT preferred)
  • Proficiency in H&H modeling software (HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, HY‑8, etc.)
  • Proven project management experience, including budgets, schedules, and client coordination

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience managing ADOT projects or on-call contracts
  • Familiarity with FEMA floodplain compliance and CLOMR/LOMR processes
  • Experience mentoring staff and leading technical teams

Responsibilities

  • Lead proposal development efforts, including scope, fee, and schedule preparation, and positioning for new drainage and transportation opportunities.
  • Manage drainage-focused transportation projects, including freeway, roadway, and infrastructure improvements (ADOT, municipal, and regional clients).
  • Plan, organize, and lead project teams, including assigning tasks, managing budgets and schedules, and ensuring successful delivery of multiple concurrent projects.
  • Coordinate and direct multidisciplinary teams, working closely with roadway, structures, geotechnical, and environmental staff.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships while ensuring project objectives are met.
  • Manage financial performance of projects, including cost control, invoicing, subconsultant coordination, and contract compliance.
  • Facilitate meetings with clients, agencies, and stakeholders; present project status, technical findings, and recommendations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of project documentation, reports, and design packages.
  • Serve as the technical lead for hydrology and hydraulics analyses on transportation projects.
  • Lead design and review of storm drain systems, open channel and culvert design, detention/retention basins, floodplain mapping and drainage studies, and scour and erosion protection design.
  • Utilize and oversee modeling using tools such as HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, HY‑8, SRH‑2D, or equivalent.
  • Interpret and apply ADOT Drainage Manual, FEMA requirements, and local municipal criteria.
  • Provide quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) for drainage reports, plans, and calculations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support staff in drainage design and analysis.
  • Act as a seller-doer, supporting client development and pursuing new work in Arizona and the Southwest.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with agencies such as ADOT, Maricopa County, and local municipalities.
  • Support strategic growth of the transportation drainage practice in the Phoenix market.
  • Contribute to technical excellence initiatives and best practices across the firm.
  • Participate in internal initiatives, including technical committees, project delivery improvements, and knowledge sharing.
  • Support resource planning and staff development within the Phoenix office.
