About The Position

Surgical Services encompasses the multidisciplinary teams and operations that support the full perioperative continuum, including pre-operative preparation, operating room (OR) care, post-anesthesia recovery (PACU), sterile processing (CSPD), and surgical/procedural support services. This department partners closely with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, and support teams to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care. Within Surgical Services, the Project Manager will play a critical role in advancing strategic and operational initiatives that improve access, efficiency, and care delivery across the perioperative environment. This includes leading and coordinating projects related to OR optimization, surgical scheduling and throughput, clinical workflow improvements, implementation of new technologies and surgical innovation, and capital or infrastructure efforts impacting surgical spaces. The Project Manager will work in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment—engaging clinical, operational, and administrative stakeholders—to ensure projects are effectively executed from planning through implementation. Success in this role requires the ability to translate complex perioperative needs into structured project plans, drive alignment across teams, and deliver measurable improvements in surgical performance, patient experience, and resource utilization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate projects related to OR optimization, surgical scheduling and throughput, clinical workflow improvements, implementation of new technologies and surgical innovation, and capital or infrastructure efforts impacting surgical spaces.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate and deliver project activities through the entire project life cycle (from initiation to hand off to customer) that are broad in scope.
  • Achieve project objectives and completion on time, on budget, and in conformance to Mayo Clinic project management methodologies and standards.
  • Independently lead one or multiple medium to large projects that have department or site level strategic importance.
  • Manage established budget, participates in the creation and tracking of project budgets.
  • Facilitate problem-solving, decision-making and change management, taking prudent actions to accomplish project objectives under minimal supervision.
  • Apply negotiations skills characterized by entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Work with diverse functions and build relationships.
  • May require matrix supervision, and evaluation of staff from other departments, divisions, and contractors/vendors.
  • Perform additional job functions as detailed by immediate supervisor.
