About The Position

Responsible for packaging and process development and improvement, equipment, and material sourcing/qualification. Manages package development requests from conception to commercialization, following a product development process using an engineering methodology. Acts as the Project Manager (“voice to the customer”), publishes timelines using MS Project or equivalent, and tracks project spending to ensure costs do not exceed the CAR or funding budget. Holds kick-off, design review, and project update meetings, and works closely with engineering peers, owning the design and package development. Uses SPC and can interpret run data. Coordinates with the Customer, Plant, Lab, Quality & Sales team, and works closely with the customer’s Package Engineer, holding customer project meetings. Conducts pilot mold reviews and makes recommendations prior to moving into production. Organizes and leads the design review and pre-qualification meetings, completing a pre-qualification checklist. Works with Plant Quality to review specifications and provide product drawings and specifications to the production team. Participates in all sampling qualification runs and line trials. Assists with efficiency improvement programs (i.e., cycle improvement, light-weighting, downtime reduction, etc.), new material evaluations, process and mold development programs that create standard work (SOC), and CSR and Sustainability programs (i.e., PCR implementation, Ecovadis information and documentation, etc.). Partners with sales and customer success teams to understand customer needs and project requirements, and learns machine capabilities, restrictions, and key elements. Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field, preferably in Mechanical, Packaging, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years Engineering experience in Manufacturing environment
  • Project Management utilizing a Stage/Gate process
  • Operations in a fast-paced plastic packaging environment, knowledge of Continuous Improvement processes and tools, Quality Systems.
  • Must be able to work at computer for extended period of time
  • Must be able to lift or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Attention to safety when working around production equipment.
  • Resolves and/or escalates issues properly
  • Ability & willingness to learn and adapt as needed
  • Computer skills – MS office
