About The Position

Manage multiple projects or programs at the highest level of complexity within a matrix team environment. Provide leadership, direction, training, coordination, and effective communication to initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control, and close projects in a safe, efficient, economical, risk-balanced approach to achieve short- and long-range goals and to obtain maximum customer satisfaction. Provide project transparency and develop relationships and effectively communicate with all stakeholders including internal customers, external customers, team members, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and industry peers, enabling them to make sound business decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field of study dependent upon business unit requirements with seven (7) years qualified experience, two-year Associate’s degree in the same required disciplines with nine (9) years of qualified experience, or High School Diploma/GED with eleven (11) years qualified experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Project Management Senior (Grade 8) is preferred, OR demonstrated competencies, knowledge and skillset through achieved results in a shorter timeline.
  • Qualified experience includes work in project management, major construction field experience, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, and/or comparable internal or external experience in a competitive production environment.
  • Experience must include a demonstrated level of successful project management duties, business acumen, and prior responsibility for ALL of the certifying body knowledge areas.
  • Demonstrated preparedness for specialist level PM knowledge capability in areas of construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, risk management, etc.
  • Valid state driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP certification is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in utilities, commercial nuclear power, and/or IT systems is favorable.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and supervise assigned project and outage work activities with demonstrated proficiency in all aspects.
  • Skillfully and successfully apply project management principles and techniques (Waterfall, Agile) to ensure effective project execution.
  • Develop, manage, and oversee project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables, and monitor progress to ensure alignment with established objectives.
  • Support, lead, and hold employees and contractors accountable to organizational standards.
  • Supervise, develop, and coordinate project teams, including direct reports and assistant project managers, with demonstrated proficiency in all aspects.
  • Establish clear expectations, delegate assignments, evaluate performance, and provide constructive feedback to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Effectively communicate project and outage details, risks, and status updates to all stakeholders including team members, management, customers, and external partners.
  • Lead planning meetings, project updates, and stakeholder presentations, and provide clear and concise written reports.
  • Develop and actively manage effective working relationships across all project stakeholders.
  • Support and ensure adherence to AEP safety policies and standards, promoting a safe working environment focused on the commitment to Zero Harm.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards, governance requirements, and regulatory expectations.
  • Foster teamwork and actively monitor and promote customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure effective and efficient performance of project and outage activities while maintaining a high level of customer focus and service delivery.
  • Manage project budgets and costs with demonstrated proficiency, including performing economic analysis and aligning project decisions with organizational financial goals.
  • Develop and manage procurement plans and oversee contract lifecycle activities, including development of requests for proposals, evaluation of bids, vendor selection, participation in negotiations, and oversight of vendor performance.
  • Provide strategic thinking, planning, and risk assessment for project activities.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks while applying sound decision-making practices to prioritize activities, resolve issues, and ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide guidance, instruction, and leadership to improve processes, systems, schedules, and costs.
  • Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for enhanced performance and ensuring alignment with organizational standards, tools, and governance processes.
  • Influence and support project design, engineering, procurement, and construction activities to optimize outcomes.
  • Ensure adherence to current procedures, standards, and best practices across all phases of project execution.
  • Represent AEP, as required, with customers, vendors, and regulators.
  • Manage project closeout processes, including evaluation of project performance and realization of project objectives and benefits.
  • Support and uphold organizational values, policies, and behaviors.
  • Perform field-related duties as required, including work in varying environments such as offices, construction sites, and industrial facilities.
  • Travel as required to support project assignments.
  • Manage programs as assigned.
