Project Manager

BLUE ORIGIN•Seattle, WA
•$112,059 - $156,883•Onsite

About The Position

At Blue Origin, we believe Earth is our home — and that building a road to space is how we protect and benefit it for generations to come. The Tech Project Management team provides dedicated project management leadership for BNS vertical integration projects and Blue Ring Spacecraft delivery. This role exists to bring new vertical integration engineering concepts and core systems and avionics products through development, qualification, and transition into production — faster, with greater discipline, and at the highest standards. As a Project Manager, you will be embedded within a team developing and delivering cutting-edge systems, and critical vehicle hardware. You will be in the details daily — identifying blockers, cutting through ambiguity, driving progress on the activities that matter most. We are looking for someone who thinks big, digs deep, earns trust at every level, and brings a bias for action to the most challenging problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Management, Operations, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of project/program management experience, or a Master's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or a similarly regulated hardware development environment
  • Experience with financial performance management: budgets, baselines, variance reporting, and recovery planning
  • Proven track record managing critical path and high-visibility deliverables under significant schedule pressure
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP or equivalent program management certification
  • Experience in all phases of a project (Initiation, Planning, Execution, Closing)
  • Familiarity with common project management tools (Microsoft suite; Project, Excel, PowerPoint; Jira; Coupa; Jules, etc.)
  • Experience managing hardware development programs involving avionics, electronics, or complex integrated systems from development through production transition
  • Data fluency: KPI tracking, and comfort with automation/AI-enabled workflow improvements
  • Experience building operating rhythms, KPI dashboards, and standardized PM processes across multiple teams
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and manufacturing workflows
  • Familiarity with AS6500, Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRLs), and Production Readiness Levels (PRLs)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the dedicated Project Lead — driving each product from concept through development, qualification, and production transition (for core avionics, spacecraft systems, and other critical vehicle hardware)
  • Partner with technical leads and maintain direct, hands-on awareness of product maturity, test status, and qualification progress — active engagement with the engineering team; ensure hardware readiness gates are defined, tracked, and met
  • Own and manage the critical path across all assigned projects — knowing at any given moment what is at risk, what needs immediate action
  • Proactively identify and attack roadblocks — arriving with recovery plans, purpose-built tracking tools, and novel approaches when standard methods fall short
  • Be willing to do what it takes — including the tedious, unglamorous, and frustrating work — to move the project forward
  • Define resource needs and establish the Management Operating System (MOS); own the SOW and maintain scope discipline as programs evolve
  • Build and maintain Tier milestones and a fully Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) in coordination with Program Planning
  • Lead financial performance at the project level; track EAC and Product Cost to plan — owning budget and outcomes
  • Implement and maintain a robust business rhythm: project staff meetings, operating reviews, monthly reporting, and planning cycles
  • Maintain active risk and opportunity logs; maintain a live Rolling Action Item Log with accountable owners — driving all actions to closure
  • Lead and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority; drive real-time decisions across competing priorities
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, Quality, and Enterprise Technology to resolve emergent issues
  • Drive standardization of workflows, documentation, and best practices — eliminating recurring, manual, and non-value-added tasks
  • Define, track, and report on operational KPIs; track engineering changes across the product lifecycle ensuring visibility, traceability, and timely disposition; champion adoption of automation and data-visualization tools

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability
  • 401(k) with up to 5% company match
  • Education Support Program
  • Up to 4 weeks Paid Time Off per year + 14 company-paid holidays
  • Relocation provided
  • Stock Options for all regular employees (working at least 20 hours/week)
