About The Position

San Francisco Public Works (Public Works) is seeking two Project Managers III to join their Project Delivery team within Public Works. This role is responsible for managing a portfolio of major streetscape, transit, and public realm capital projects through all phases of planning, design, construction, and financial closeout. The position involves supervising and mentoring project management staff, coordinating complex construction sequencing, and leading interagency collaboration. Public Works has a significant impact on San Francisco, managing a large operating budget, an extensive capital portfolio, and a diverse workforce. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or planning; and four (4) years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience; and four (4) additional years of project coordination experience among which two (2) years in major architectural, engineering or construction projects.
  • OR A bachelor’s degree in another field; and six (6) years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project; and four (4) additional years of project coordination experience among which two (2) years in major architectural, engineering or construction projects.
  • OR Eight (8) years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project; and four (4) additional years of project coordination experience among which two (2) years in major architectural, engineering or construction projects.
  • OR California registration as professional engineer or architect; and four (4) additional years of project coordination experience, two (2) years of these project coordination experience need to be in major architectural, engineering or construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee a portfolio of major streetscape, transit, and public realm capital projects through active phases of planning, design, construction, and financial closeout.
  • Provide technical oversight, performance guidance, and mentorship to subordinate project managers overseeing portfolios valued at up to $66 million.
  • Coordinate the implementation of large-scale multi-modal safety enhancements, roadway reconstructions, utility and sewer upgrades, traffic signals, green infrastructure, and public realm improvements.
  • Engage with neighborhood organizations, stakeholders, and business districts to preserve historical character-defining features and address community concerns during project execution.
  • Coordinate complex construction sequencing around major public venues, commercial activities, and high-traffic events to minimize disruption to the community.
  • Lead interagency and cross-departmental collaboration by partnering with municipal planning, transportation, utilities, arts, and recreation agencies to secure approvals, align public realm plans, and ensure cohesive design standards across the city.
