About The Position

This position reports to the Engineering Operations Manager and is responsible for overseeing all of Public Works capital projects for the city. Examples of Work Authorizes and monitors the work of engineering consultants engaged in the design of Capital Improvement projects. Supervises all assigned staff. Reviews, evaluates and approves master schedule of all Public Works capital projects. Manages multiple projects simultaneously in various phases of development including scope preparation, consultant selection, design management, permitting, cost estimating, right-of-way acquisition, and preparation of construction documents. Prepares reports, spreadsheets and other necessary documents for reporting progress on all Public Works capital projects. Reviews, evaluates and resolves disputes and change order requests. Monitors expenses and budgets. Updates project tracking spreadsheets. Meets financial objectives by forecasting requirements, analyzing variances and initiating corrective action. Ensures that quality standards are met. Participates in management meetings intended to resolve issues. Assigns responsibility, takes corrective action demonstrates leadership and evaluates, develops, and motivates employees. Supervises with facts, focuses on results, provides clear direction, and encourages innovation.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in engineering or architecture.
  • Five (5) years of experience in project management - required.
  • Must be a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Florida or, if registered as a Professional Engineer in another state, must secure Florida registration within one (1) year of appointment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license during employment in this class.
  • Must qualify for, obtain and maintain a City of Jacksonville public driver certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on public sector or government funded infrastructure projects - preferred.
