About The Position

InterAgency is seeking a full-time Project Manager II to join our Commercial Permitting team. The Project Manager will support clients throughout the permitting lifecycle by initiating, tracking, and coordinating construction permits for large-scale development projects in the District of Columbia and surrounding jurisdictions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and highly organized, with strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • At minimum 5–7 years of permitting, construction administration, regulatory coordination, or related project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of construction, architecture, engineering, and municipal or regulatory permitting processes.
  • Proven experience communicating and resolving permitting issues with Authorities Having Jurisdiction, municipal agencies, and other regulatory officials.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans and identify permitting requirements, risks, and document deficiencies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, competing priorities, and client deliverables with limited supervision.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience managing permitting projects within the D.C. Metro region.
  • Established knowledge of local AHJ requirements, terminology, review procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Experience managing projects involving multiple agencies, disciplines, or permit types.
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior Project Managers and Permit Coordinators.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit permit applications to D.C. Metro regulatory agencies and AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction).
  • Independently lead complex permitting assignments using proven knowledge of AHJ requirements, regulations, terminology, and processes.
  • Coordinate with agency officials to confirm requirements, track reviews, resolve issues, and address comments or revisions.
  • Lead day-to-day client and agency communications, meetings, and permitting updates.
  • Manage permit applications through all review stages while maintaining schedules and deliverables.
  • Review architectural and engineering drawings to identify permitting requirements, risks, and potential conflicts.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of permit documents and provide guidance to junior PMs.
  • Produce accurate work with limited senior oversight.
  • Identify permitting risks and schedule impacts and develop mitigation strategies with Senior PMs.
  • Plan and manage a varied workload across projects of different sizes and complexity.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and provide timely, professional service.
  • Prepare project reports, status updates, and presentation materials.
  • Contribute to team planning, workload coordination, and project strategy.
