About The Position

National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with job opportunities that support the missions of Federal Agencies. This specific role connects experienced professionals with the National Park Service (NPS) to provide expertise in areas such as natural and cultural resource planning. The Campaign for Historic Trades is a national workforce development program focused on expanding careers in historic trades, including a Registered Apprenticeship Program. This position is authorized for up to 112 total hours and is temporary within the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions. An "Enrollee" is a participant in a grant program and not a federal employee or employee of NEW Solutions. This opportunity is for applicants legally eligible to work in the United States.

Requirements

  • HS/GED
  • Degree in Experienced traditional tradesperson, project manager, construction, similar with minimum additional experience of 20 year(s) in historic preservation, woodworking and/or log and shake roof construction, carpentry, project management, training
  • Must be skilled in the materials and methods of historic wood building construction
  • Demonstrated experience in scaffold erection and working at elevation
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Mentoring federal staff to lead project teams through project development, delivery, and historic preservation.
  • Coordinating with staff on repair requirements and design for historic preservation.
  • Implementing plans for historic preservation projects.
  • Serving as the technical expert to assist in training others in specialized roofing and preservation skills.
  • Working in a team implementing roof restoration and associated tasks as a part of training.
  • Serving as a resource of technical expertise for federal staff, answering questions, creating and providing training, and providing preservation and project management support for colleagues.
