About The Position

William Osler Health System is driven by a strategic vision to go beyond for our people and communities. As part of this commitment, we are embarking on an exciting digital transformation to implement a new, modernized Hospital Information System (HIS). Our dedicated HIS Team will collaborate closely with our trusted HIS Vendor (Epic) and internal subject matter experts to develop a fully functional system that will empower us to deliver exceptional care and services. The Project Manager, Hospital Information System (HIS), is responsible for leading implementation activities that contribute to the overall success of the HIS. The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the project lifecycle, from initial planning and requirements gathering to deployment and go-live readiness. This role is part of the HIS project structure, with a key responsibility ensure that project milestones are met on time, within budget and according to quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health discipline, health care administration, computer science, business or related degree
  • Project Management certification is required
  • Demonstrated experience managing integrations between clinical/biomedical devices and hospital information systems, including physiological monitors, fetal monitors, hemodialysis machines, anesthesia gas machines, and other connected medical technologies.
  • Manage interface development and implementation activities involving industry standards such as HL7, FHIR, DICOM, and medical device connectivity platforms such as Philips Capsule.
  • Familiarity in project management tools and software and knowledge of change management principles and methodologies
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, strong organizational skills and well-developed written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with Microsoft Enterprise applications (i.e., Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, OneNote) is required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in end user device deployments is an asset (ie. Printers, mobile devices, scanners, etc.)
  • Experience in implementing and operating a modern HIMSS stage 6 IT-enabled projects involving complex change management, IT and project governance processes is preferred
  • Experience with request for proposals, request for quotations and Information types of procurement
  • Strong understanding of hospital workflows in either clinical or non-clinical areas is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing full lifecycle of projects from initial planning and requirements gathering to deployment and go-live readiness
  • Create detailed technical project plans to establish project scope, deliverables, budgets, accountabilities, schedules, timelines, resources, monitoring and post project audit/evaluation
  • Facilitating meetings and working with teams to make detailed device and peripheral decisions
  • Participate in various project activities related to Epic implementation including developing project documentation, procurement, budget management
  • Create and maintain documentation to build a repository of key project decisions and other artifacts
  • Facilitate meetings to discuss deliverables, issues, end user concerns and upcoming milestones
  • Work closely with HIS team members to document and mitigate any escalations/issues as related to the Epic implementation
  • Partner with the Epic HIS vendor representatives to maintain communication and help vendor staff understand hospital’s operational needs
  • Work extended hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends) as required
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of biomedical device integrations with the HIS, ensuring alignment with project scope, timeline, and organizational objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional testing with teams including Clinical Engineering/Biomedical Engineering, Information Technology, Epic application teams, Infrastructure, Networking, Cybersecurity, and vendor partners to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Manage interface development and implementation activities involving industry standards such as HL7, FHIR, DICOM, and medical device connectivity platforms such as Philips Capsule.
  • Experience in managing inventory, conducting gap analysis, procurement, installation and coordination of testing all end-user devices needed for the implementation and managing the project plans as required
  • Experience managing complex budgets, working with large cross functional teams and 3rd party teams is an asset
  • Ability to learn new software and systems, demonstrating technical aptitude
  • Ability to work in an agile environment to deliver an HIS that meets end user needs
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with a team to meet HIS project milestones and ensure successful project delivery
  • Ability to analyze user requirements and produce creative solutions to meet end user needs
  • Ability and willingness to support project success in a manner that goes beyond completion of assigned tasks
  • Ability to persevere in a high intensity project to overcome obstacles and difficult situations within a time sensitive implementation
