About The Position

This position is for a Deputy Chief Parks Planner who will assist in managing the Public Space Planning Unit of the General Services Division. This position requires managing a variety of park planning projects, including community engagement, strategic planning, capital planning, and property acquisition and disposition. The applicant should have a keen interest and background in community building and the development of public spaces. The candidate should have several years’ experience working with community engagement, project management, and planning. A key requirement for this position is the ability to build strong relationships with both community and government partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with major in data analytics, project management, business, management, organizational development, or a related field.
  • Advanced levels of responsibility and three to four (3-4) years of managing Public Space Planning Unit, managing a variety of park planning projects, including community engagement, strategic and capital planning, property acquisition and disposition, project management or data analytics experience.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with both community and government partners.
  • Experience with Adobe Suite and ArcGIS software.
  • Experience with ArcGIS and Adobe programs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a variety of park planning projects, including community engagement, strategic planning, capital planning, and property acquisition and disposition.
  • Assist in managing the Public Space Planning Unit of the General Services Division.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and/or in a leadership type of role.
  • Perform a wide scope of responsibilities, potentially with City-wide impact and involving working with a wide variety of individuals and groups.
  • Community engagement, including working with community groups and leading meetings.
  • Grant management, including grant writing, application development, submitting reports, and tracking current grant projects and requirements.
  • Strategic Planning, including Council communications and interdepartmental coordination.
  • Mapping, including creating and updating maps through ArcGIS and Adobe.
  • Property Disposition and Acquisition.
  • Capital Planning, including producing fundraising materials.
  • Graphic Design, including public presentations, flyers, newsletters, and other public-facing materials.
  • Analyze data from a variety of database sources and formats for research, systems, and report design.
  • Assist stakeholders in understanding generated reports, outputs, and operational interfaces, and counsel them on their use and on finding ways to be used to improve their functionality.
  • Assist with the implementation of divisional goals, initiatives, and plans.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve work processes.
  • Drive fact-based decision-making at all levels within the organization.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives, including automation, on the processes/tools used to increase the capability and efficiency of reporting efforts.
  • Investigate and analyze complex proposed departmental reorganizations of City departments.
  • Manage project development and execution from inception to closure.
  • Present results of analyses concisely and effectively to ensure adoption.
  • Produce summarization reports, outputs, and operational interfaces that present research findings to stakeholders.
  • Provide recommendations for improving business results, operational efficiencies, and system experiences through in-depth analysis.
  • Provide supporting information to substantiate research findings.
  • Responsible for Data Management best practices, quality standards, and advanced Data Management activities.
  • Track and report project milestones and status reports to project sponsors.
