About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager 3 / Construction Manager to lead and oversee construction project execution at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This role is responsible for the successful delivery of construction projects in a high-hazard nuclear environment, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational excellence. The position requires strong leadership, technical construction expertise, and the ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary teams in a highly regulated setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field OR Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Typically requires 15+ years of experience in Project management, Construction, Engineering, Project controls or procurement
  • Demonstrated experience managing scope, schedule, and budget
  • Demonstrated experience managing change control and reporting processes
  • Proven ability to lead complex, multidisciplinary teams
  • Proven ability to deliver projects under competing deadlines
  • Experience with project planning tools and methodologies
  • Extensive knowledge of construction operations and quality
  • Extensive knowledge of subcontract management
  • Extensive knowledge of construction technologies
  • Experience in constructability reviews
  • Experience with cost and schedule analysis
  • Familiarity with facility construction and maintenance systems
  • Strong understanding of government compliance standards
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations
  • Commitment to safety and security in high-hazard environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in DOE or National Laboratory environments

  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS)
  • Familiarity with Control Account Management (CAM)

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of construction project execution
  • Provide technical direction and administrative oversight for field construction activities and project teams and site personnel
  • Ensure safety and security are fully integrated into all work activities, including stopping work when necessary
  • Review and manage project estimates, budgets and forecasts, and schedules and cost performance
  • Evaluate construction specifications and drawings for constructability and efficiency
  • Coordinate across Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, and Project Controls
  • Resolve issues related to staffing, material delivery, and contract/subcontract administration
  • Support development and review of project procedures and operational controls
  • Lead project planning activities including scheduling, resource planning, and cost estimation
  • Staff and manage construction site teams, ensuring performance, quality, and technical adequacy
  • Monitor field execution and ensure adherence to procedures and safety standards
  • Serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) as needed, including cost and schedule management, variance analysis, and corrective action planning
  • Present project updates, performance metrics, and issues to senior leadership and federal sponsors
