About The Position

The Defense Technologies Engineering Division has an opening for a Project Management Group Leader. This position serves as the administrative supervisor for a team of project managers matrixed across diverse work areas within Strategic Deterrence programs. The administrative supervisor is responsible for personnel management, workforce planning, employee development, hiring, onboarding, workload coordination, and the overall health of the Project Management group. Depending on your assignment, this position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week. This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

Requirements

Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Business, Management, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Experience supervising or leading professional staff in a structured organization.
Experience in administrative leadership, including performance management, coaching, hiring, workforce planning, and employee development.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Strong organizational skills and experience coordinating people, priorities, and workloads.
Sound judgment and professionalism in handling sensitive personnel matters.
Ability to work effectively with technical and organizational leaders.
Ability to promote and maintain productive relationships across directorates, laboratories, and external organizations.
Extensive experience in administrative supervision and workforce leadership.
Strong record of team building, conflict resolution, and influencing multiple stakeholders, including senior management.
Experience developing workforce strategies and prioritizing organizational assignments.
Significant leadership experience involving senior management and external organizations.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, Business, Management, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Experience in a national security, engineering, project management, or regulated technical environment.
Experience with workforce planning, succession planning, staff development, or organizational change.
Familiarity with matrixed technical organizations.

Responsibilities

Provide administrative supervision, direction, mentoring, coaching, and support to Project Management group personnel.
Manage personnel matters, including performance reviews, time approval, salary planning, hiring, onboarding, employee relations, recognition, and career development.
Contribute to division performance and salary management processes.
Monitor and support staff development, including required training and professional growth.
Participate in hiring activities to support organizational workforce needs.
Partner with technical and organizational leaders to align staffing and workforce capability with priorities.
Coordinate staff assignments and balance workloads across the Project Management group.
Identify workforce capability gaps and work with leadership to address them through hiring, development, or reassignment.
Foster a healthy, collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment.
Build connection and community among Project Management personnel, project controls staff, and technical teams.
Establish and maintain constructive, collaborative working relationships with other administrative leads and stakeholders.
Communicate staffing constraints, organizational risks, and personnel matters that may affect group effectiveness.
Promote safe work practices and productive workplace relationships.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Lead broader workforce planning and talent development efforts for the Project Management organization.
Mentor supervisors, team leads, and senior staff in personnel management and leadership practices.
Influence organizational decisions related to workforce capability, organizational structure, and staff development.
Lead resolution of complex personnel and organizational issues with broad impact.
Establish and improve administrative processes for organizing and supporting the Project Management group.
