About The Position

Group Leaders actively supervise students and plan and lead meaningful, culturally relevant and engaging daily activities. The position provides direction for the group, implements curriculum, supports children of all abilities and creates a quality experience grounded in Y values.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years of age
48 semester units or successful completion of the Instructional Aide (IA) exam.
One year of previous experience working in a professional child care or school aged program
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and support children of all abilities.
Pre-employment health screening/TB and DOJ/FBI LiveScan clearances.
Pediatric First Aid and CPR, AED, Child Abuse Prevention and applicable safety trainings within required timelines.

Responsibilities

Actively supervise students at all times to ensure physical and emotional safety.
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, culturally relevant curriculum and activities; prepare supplies and equipment.
Provide direction to Group Leader Assistants and work cooperatively with all staff to ensure the quality of the program.
Promote individual growth and exploration while recognizing each child’s needs.
Maintain accurate attendance and required program records.
Provide homework assistance and academic skill-building instruction; connect activities to student needs and school/district goals.
Support health and well-being of children in the program; provide first aid when necessary and promptly report incidents or injuries.
Use consistent, age-appropriate positive behavior guidelines.
Report and document notable behavior and situations to the appropriate supervisor, according to policies and procedures.
Build and maintain positive communication—both verbal and non-verbal—with students, families, school personnel, district partners and Y staff. Positively explain and interpret program standards and policies. Provide ongoing and continuous feedback to parents regarding their child’s development.
Attend and actively participate in required staff meetings, trainings, program activities and special events.
Other duties as assigned.
