About The Position

The Project Leader manages multiple low- to moderately complex engineering projects with minimal direction, providing project management and technical direction to support Value Engineering and Product Support across the Battery Category. The role leads design projects, guides and reviews team members’ work, and oversees projects through timely implementation and mass production. The Project Leader works across functions—including Marketing, Operations, Quality, manufacturing plants, and suppliers—to align technical decisions and milestones and deliver products that meet market requirements for cost, timing, reliability, and high-volume manufacturing. The role also oversees component integration, material selection, packaging, safety, and regulatory compliance, and conducts design and safety reviews to support product-development phase approvals.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
Minimum 7 years of relevant engineering experience.
High mechanical/electrical engineering aptitude and broad knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes used for power tools.
Proven experience managing critical-path schedules and technical and schedule risks, including implementing preventative actions.
Experience leading cross-functional teams through problem-solving.
Skill in preparing and presenting high-level engineering and project summaries.
Working design knowledge of technologies associated with Milwaukee products.
Ability to draft comprehensive test plans and specifications.
Experience with 3D CAD and tolerance analysis.
Familiarity with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Project.
Ability to travel internationally 10–15%.

Responsibilities

Lead low- to moderately complex design projects, providing direction, guidance, and engineering expertise to team members and reviewing their work.
Schedule, facilitate, and document project meetings, and track schedules to support adherence to timelines.
Complete assigned engineering projects within budget and schedule guidelines.
Communicate across teams through day-to-day updates and high-level project summaries to support timely completion.
Drive designs to meet market-driven requirements for cost, timing, reliability, and high-volume manufacturing.
Identify project risks and implement risk-reduction plans.
Analyze, evaluate, and select design execution alternatives to meet specification objectives, and implement selected designs into mass production.
Oversee integration of complex components, material selection, packaging, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Conduct design and safety reviews to obtain approvals for product-development phase progressions.
Comply with Milwaukee Tool procedures related to project flow across engineering and non-engineering departments.
Visualize the full scope of projects with minimal guidance; frame technical tradeoff discussions with Marketing and other cross-functional teams and ensure milestone alignment.
Work with Operations, Quality, and suppliers to confirm delivery of conforming products.
Motivate cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives while maintaining focus on cost, performance, and schedule.
Oversee day-to-day activities of project team members.
Work extensively with manufacturing plants and suppliers to achieve project goals.
Review current procedures and implement improvements to enhance project outcomes.
