About The Position

Dematic is seeking a Project Lead Engineer (PLE) for their Amazon Business Unit. This role is crucial for managing and overseeing all engineering deliverables to ensure projects are completed on time. The PLE will be responsible for translating customer technical requirements into measurable deliverables for Mechanical and Controls (Electrical) Project Engineering, ensuring they are met on schedule, within budget, and to high-quality standards. This is a customer-facing role that partners closely with the Project Manager and involves identifying, prioritizing, and assigning tasks to engineers and coordinating activities across various Dematic departments and third-party providers. The PLE will manage the engineering schedule, coordinate change management, handle communication, and provide technical reporting, representing the technical team to leadership and the customer.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related project engineering experience, including planning, specification evaluation, and implementation of material handling projects.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics).
  • Prior experience leading project technical deliverables.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering or project management.
  • Exceptional customer focus and ability to deliver results.
  • Demonstrated problem solver with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate, influence and operate in a strongly matrixed global organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees all engineering deliverables necessary to deliver the project on time.
  • Translates customer technical requirements into measured deliverables for Mechanical and Controls (Electrical) Project Engineering.
  • Ensures engineering deliverables are met on-time, on budget, and without sacrificing quality.
  • Identifies, prioritizes, and assigns scheduled deliverables to appropriate engineers and all related project activities across Dematic departments.
  • Responsible for all technical requirements, engineering schedule management, change management coordination, communication and technical reporting.
  • Works closely with the Project Manager & Change Management team and represents the technical team to leadership and the customer.
  • Translates the project contractual technical requirements into scheduled deliverables for the engineering teams (including design layout, firm engineering customer approval, order entry, installation drawings, emulation, and commissioning).
  • Identifies needed resources across engineering teams, including external suppliers, and manages the engineering schedule across the project team to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Ensures a high degree of quality of output for all deliverables and the entire solution via adherence to established standards for processes, engineering quality, and standard work.
  • Identifies and resolves issues that affect engineering deliverables to avoid negative impact on the project.
  • Monitors and manages project/team performance and ensures project requirements and milestones are met.
  • Contributes feedback to Engineering Managers for performance reviews of their project team and invests in the development of the engineers on their project team.
  • Delivers the technical scope and supporting deliverables, as well as progress updates and road blocks, as assigned by the Project Manager on time and within budget.
  • Acts as the main point of contact for project management, installation, procurement, external suppliers, manufacturing, etc. regarding all engineering deliverables.
  • Ensures all necessary specifications for third-party components, resale, etc. are followed, accurate and complete; liaising with ME/CE Leads as needed to ensure completion.
  • Provides Solutions Development input on project schedule and engineering resource estimates & availability.
  • Influences the use of standard designs.
  • Aligns with line managers about performance, skill set, and availability of project engineering resources.
  • Tracks engineering progress and ensuring project is pacing to schedule; aligns with ME/CE Leads as needed to report progress.
  • Creates technical project status reports, financial forecast, and providing schedule updates that include EV along with project pacing.
  • Supports the project manager in risk management and risk mitigation actions by documenting, escalating, and managing project risk; preparing PSR / PVRs.
  • Leads technical reviews and conducts post-mortem with PM to feed continuous improvement.
