About The Position

HR Green is seeking a Project Land Surveyor (PLS) to join their Survey team. This role will support land development, transportation, and municipal projects by delivering accurate data. The Project Land Surveyor I/II position offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects across Illinois, including residential and commercial developments, roadway improvements, and municipal infrastructure. The successful candidate will be part of a growing Survey Group where their work directly contributes to project success and long-term community development. This role involves supporting and leading land surveying efforts in both field and office environments, contributing to projects from initial research through final deliverables. The Project Land Surveyor will work closely with project managers, engineers, clients, and contractors to ensure accuracy, quality, and alignment throughout the project lifecycle. This role offers a balance of technical work, field involvement, and project leadership, providing an opportunity to have a direct impact on projects, gain exposure to a variety of project types, and build leadership skills and technical expertise. It is ideal for someone who wants to take ownership of their work and play a key role in delivering high-quality survey services.

Requirements

  • At least five years of progressive experience in land surveying
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license or ability to obtain within six months
  • Experience with tools such as AutoCAD and other surveying software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
  • Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and legal descriptions
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and support research of public records related to land surveys
  • Perform or assist with field surveys for boundary, topographic, and construction projects
  • Prepare and support the development of easement descriptions, plats, and legal descriptions
  • Generate survey plats and support subdivision platting efforts
  • Ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards and regulations
  • Maintain detailed field notes, data files, and project documentation
  • Lead and coordinate survey crews and office staff in completing project tasks
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget while coordinating with clients and internal teams
  • Identify and address technical, schedule, or financial challenges proactively
  • Contribute to proposal development, including estimating time and cost for survey services
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to junior team members
