About The Position

GFT is seeking a Geologist to join its Geotechnical, Dams and Hydraulics team in Roseville or Oakland, California. The position follows a hybrid work model and requires regular office attendance. The Roseville office primarily supports hydroelectric clients and related projects. The role supports geologic investigations to characterize geologic and geotechnical conditions and identify factors that could affect the design, construction, or long-term performance of engineered structures. Work includes field reconnaissance mapping, geotechnical boring logging and sampling, development of geologic models from available surface and subsurface data, and preparation of technical reports. Projects may involve rockfall evaluation and mitigation, storm damage assessment and repair, post-fire assessment and debris-flow mitigation, fault-hazard evaluation, seismic-source characterization, geotechnical and structural instrumentation, and inspection of water conveyance systems such as canals, tunnels, and penstocks. The successful candidate will organize and perform geologic investigations, compile and analyze geologic data, interpret and correlate geologic and laboratory data, prepare maps and cross-sections, and resolve discrepancies. The position also includes preparing field exploration plans, job hazard assessments, and technical reports; observing construction activities; coordinating with clients and attending project meetings; preparing project budgets and schedules; managing multiple small projects or tasks; directing junior personnel; and supporting client development and identification of business opportunities.
