Project Geologist

GFT•Roseville, CA

About The Position

GFT is hiring a Geologist for its Geotechnical, Dams and Hydraulics team, based in Roseville or Oakland, California. The position follows a hybrid work model and requires regular office attendance. The Roseville office primarily supports hydroelectric clients and related projects. The role supports geologic investigations that characterize and evaluate geologic and geotechnical conditions and identify factors that may affect the design, construction, or long-term performance of engineered structures. Work includes field reconnaissance and geologic mapping, geotechnical boring logging and sampling, development of geologic models from surface and subsurface data, and preparation of technical reports. Projects may include rockfall evaluation and mitigation, storm damage assessment and repair, post-fire assessment and debris-flow mitigation, fault hazard evaluation, seismic source characterization, geotechnical and structural instrumentation, and inspections of canals, tunnels, penstocks, and other water conveyance facilities. The Geologist organizes and performs investigations, compiles and analyzes geologic information, interprets and correlates geologic and laboratory data, prepares maps and cross-sections, and resolves discrepancies. The position routinely prepares field exploration work plans, job hazard assessments, and technical reports with supporting figures and tables. It also performs construction observation, coordinates periodically with clients, attends project meetings, and prepares project budgets, schedules, and reports. The successful candidate concurrently manages multiple small projects or tasks within larger projects, including tracking resources, scope, budgets, schedules, and deliverables; directs lower-level geosciences and engineering personnel; and assists with client management and business development.
