Horst Excavating is seeking skilled foremen with excavation experience to join their team. They serve various commercial markets including senior living, education, industrial, manufacturing, religious, and performing arts. Projects are primarily located within a 75-mile radius of Lancaster, PA, but they also provide services throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Requirements

  • Basic academic education (high school diploma or equivalent).
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
  • At least 2 years prior experience in the excavating industry.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and project specifications.
  • Must have the ability to apply basic shop mathematics.
  • Basic skill level in the use of measuring instruments and simple tools required.
  • A current valid driver's license is required.
  • Will be required to obtain all clearances required to work on school projects, including but not limited to the Pennsylvania and Federal criminal history records, fingerprint submission, Act 34 background check, and Act 151 child abuse clearances.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational training preferred.
  • Equipment operation or pipe laying experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage excavation projects from start to finish.
  • Ensure assignments are performed safely and efficiently.
  • Assign and inspect work.
  • Order materials and track time and materials utilized.
  • Schedule manpower and equipment.
  • Order materials and review/check accuracy of invoices and tickets.
  • Perform site layout work.
  • Work with the Project Manager to develop schedules.
  • Coordinate repair and maintenance of equipment with the shop.
  • Operate equipment when needed.
  • Conduct and attend weekly site safety meetings.
  • Be responsible for overall work site safety management.
  • Review and approve employee time cards for project activities.
  • Monitor quality of workmanship on jobsite.
  • Document as-built conditions on a record set of as-built drawings as changes occur.
  • Comply with municipality requirements, specifications, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Participate in completing monthly projection reports.
  • Be responsible for the condition and accounting of tools on the job site.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks and responsibilities to field staff.
  • Investigate site conditions.
  • Prepare Daily Log Reports, Job Site Managers Weekly Report, O.S. Reports, etc.
