The Project Executive (PEX) or Operations Manager (OM) role, which may be used interchangeably, is a senior management position accountable for the overall results of projects under their supervision. This role typically oversees multiple projects, ensuring their success and acting as the primary leader. The level of hands-on management can vary based on project needs. The PEX/OM is responsible for proper project staffing, actively participating in recruiting, and developing strategic plans with necessary resources. They serve as a liaison between operations and business development, engaging in both areas. A PEX/OM might manage a single large, complex project (over $75M) or multiple projects through delegated teams. Both Superintendents and Project Management staff may report directly to the PEX/OM. The ultimate goal is to achieve success in terms of quality, profitability, schedule, and client satisfaction. The PEX/OM must be capable of all duties of a Senior Project Manager and demonstrate prior success in that or an equivalent role, managing large, complex projects, multiple smaller projects, and leading through subordinate staff.
